It's frustrating that you can count on one hand the number of manufacturers that have phones with built-in support for USB C to HDMI. Of course, the other side of the equation is software like Dex to make the most of it, but it's a shame that functionality isn't part of Android in any useful way.

Hello, I just want to point out that resolution can actually be changed without root. All you need is ADB. You can either use PC or just the phone itself (if you have Android 11+). Full HD example: adb shell "wm size 1080x1920; wm density 160" More items can fit on the screen as the density is set to lower. To reset: adb shell "wm size reset; wm density reset" For notched screens, I recommend setting "Simulated display with cutout" to Waterfall cutout. If you're on Android 11 or older, black bars would vanish in landscape. Tested on Samsung ROMS (since Android 7.0). Other ROMs may not play well. Don't go crazy with the values. Try at your own risk!

Something that's blowing my mind here is that in your short Asphalt clip, the timer on the top right of the game on the monitor is actually AHEAD of the timer on the phone. For example at 6:57 in the video the timer on the monitor reads 00:28.461, whereas it reads 00:28.378 on the phone. So the monitor is ahead by 83ms. Essentially the monitor is predicting the future.

Hi there, if you remember you posted a video of similar type of hdmi from any phone months ago, which used miraplug, i bought that one but was dissapointed with the quality of video, i mean there was some sort of compression which decreased the image quality, even though it was quite lag free but mostly i wanted to use it for video out and any miracast system even wired one compresses output of the video, unlike a real usb 3.1 alt out phones. So i was wondering about the quality of the displaylink, does it also compresses the output of the video or is it like a real usb 3.1 alt out like hdmi. thanks again, you always post interesting tech videos.

I don't the dock he used in the video, but i do have a monitor that used Displaylink over usb. I noticed that on Android, the Displaylink Presenter app used native casting function on Android. So the result is the image always have some compression in it, i think it's because Android prioritize speed over quality. Also the color isn't as nice, compared to connecting it to a computer through the same USB connection. Over on pc my display seem to have some slight input lag compared to no lag on Android, but it has no compression. So i think it's just how it works on Android

Guys, guys, don't buy this product. I promise you will be disappointed. I once bought a wired casting device featured in an ETA Prime video before. (1) the lag IS bad, you can actually see plainly in the video that it's bad. Unless you are extremely OK with laggy gameplay, don't do it. (2) What you probably won't see in this video is that the video output will look very compressed and not crisp 1080p at all. This setup is squeezing the video signal through USB 2.0 speeds. If you want TV output from a phone, you're much better off buying a used OnePlus 7 Pro or Galaxy S10.

I've used that particular Target adapter (and its Dell equivalent). They've very unreliable. As in the video output stops working, and you're basically left with a large USB hub. If I was going to try this out, I'd use another adapter. Another tidbit of information - if I remember correctly, this used to work quite well on Samsung phones (without any additional software being required), until they rolled out DEX. Then all of a sudden it stopped working unless the adapter was a DEX-approved device or something like that. It was some time ago, but I remember wanting to demonstrate the feature to management after testing it using our displaylink adapters at the office, only to realise that the feature had suddenly stopped working after the phone s/w was updated, grr. Looks like installing the apps you've listed is a nice workaround for the issue, so I'm definitely going to try it out.

Would be interested in seeing what other launchers for desktop type use are available that you recommend? For a 'dex' type or android pc type experience rather than simply using ATV.

There are a few other good phones with display out. The upper end of the Motorola series comes with a display adaptor. I'm currently using a G100 that links up to my tv very easily. I hear the G200 and the edge series have this ability as well, although I have not used them to verify the validity of what I had heard.

It'd be great if there's a support without side loading any apk. Would be very very useful in phones/tab whose screen doesn't work.

Now if you rocked out with the tab7 lite you have so much more and it's just a little bigger than the a32, plus you have the option to jump to full out windows PC mode on the tab7. I love this tablet I got it for 15$ plus tax at metro on sale brand new along with the A32 5g, IMHO with developers options off and some personal tweaks the 32 holds its own next to most flagship devices which is impressive.. it shows how far samsung surpassed apple!

My phone used to show black bars like this but if I pinch my screen and just spread my fingers a bit it resizes the image to the whole screen. I have enabled an option to do so, in the Dev options on my phone .📱😁 Before I had this phone For the last 4 yrs I used an adapter to use my phone on my TV screen(HDMI out) it's just a small box with a USBC connection with HDMI, USB A & Mini USB it was only like 20$ on Amazon and makes it HDMI out. I believe I also used a software called ez cast to get it to work.(obviously I tethered but still needed the software) Now I have Ready For so I no longer need the adapter.

To charge the phone you could and idk if it would work but you could try to split the usb connection to separate ports one for power only and one for the dock but your device may not fast charge but it would be some kind of power it shouldn't be much on Amazon for example

To solve the black border issue, many tv's and monitors now a days have overscan/underscan. Depending on the display, you can zoom/stretch the display. However if you change the display settings, most likely what will happen is that the quality of the image will end up pixelating a bit. So basically it's your choice to get rid of the black border, or suffer a little bit of pixelation.

I got the HP USB C/A universal dock G2 and tried with Galaxy Note10+ and Tab S7 FE, and connected directly via USB C and the phone and tablet were charging, even got Ethernet to work. But the downsize of DisplayLink is that tou cannot watch Netflix and when watching KZitem it even froze and there were some freezing all together. I ordered and Vention USB C to HDMI/3x USB3.0/PowerDelivery without Eth. Dock station for 20 Euros witch isnt a DisplayLink Dock and its working even better.

I think this is better option...Lenovo USB-C 7-in-1 Hub 4X90V55523...I use it and it has USB-c that gives me video output and charges my phone plus USB ports for mouse and keyboard and hdmi output. It's only $59 as well and no other adapters. Never used it for gaming but works good for other tasks.

I tried a similar adapter (Miraplug) with a Mi 9T Pro and a Samsung A40 quite some time ago but to no avail. I ended up with another useless piece of electronics at the bottom of a drawer. Just buy a second hand phone that will natively cast to a screen rather than trying such a kludge. Samsung Note 9/10 are cheap enough now and they come with Dex.

I've watched several of your videos, but due to the large number and my limited English, I couldn't quite understand them. I'd like to directly inquire about something related to connecting a phone to a TV. I want to use an emulator on my phone for PS2, Wii, NGC (I'm using Dolphin) and screen mirror it to the TV. Wireless options have too much latency. My phone, POCO F2 Pro, and Huawei Nova 7se don't support Type C to HDMI. Among the various methods you've mentioned, which is the most suitable, considering both cost and minimal latency? I've seen you mention adapters, decks, and cables, but I'm unsure if they work with phones that don't support Type C to HDMI. Also, some people mention that using a non-powered adapter may lead to connection issues due to insufficient phone power, while using cables may cause overheating. Can you provide some advice? Thank you.

Problem with this dock is you CAN'T CHARGE your phone whilst using the dock. It is better to get a USB-C hub with power delivery than get a displaylink adapter. Or better get a Universal USB C dock with displaylink chipset.
