Does your firmware function anywhere within the wideband O2 sensor range? IE can this be used to tune a methanol carb? perhaps even Propane too?

@2000freefuel technically it's all lambda but it's transfered to a gasoline afr spectrum. I don't like trying to memorize different afr spectrums - if you think of gasoline afr as unitless, you know that 14.7 is stoich, richer is obviously lower, leaner higher.

Just when I thought it was time to look into fuel injection for my 1960s carbureted car. I've been tuning these carbs for almost 35 years but it's always a hassle and they (dual carbs) always need attention. Different seasons, different altitudes when traveling, etc. I should have known that someone like you would utilize our existing modern tech to create something like this. Well done.

The most common question I get asked about the Carb Cheater on my car is fuel mileage. I don't have an answer yet for two reasons... I don't really pay attention to my mileage, and I haven't been able to drive the car enough since installing the CC to notice any change. But I guarantee the fuel mileage is at the very least better than it was before running the Cheater and letting it do it's thing all by itself. Top that off with the engine just plain running better all around, and I don't have to think about what's going on with the carb. I'm not nearly as adept at tuning a carb (and timing) as a lot of people and this has helped tremendously. 👌

Well Luke, I think you and Joe have done a fantastic job with the CC. I am looking forward to having it on my Mustangs. Fuel injection is pretty nice, but pricey... to be able to run with a carb and get the feedback needed for tuning and then just allow the CC to keep things inline from there, just feels right to me. Thanks for all your hard work.

Nice work on the cheater Luke. Been working on carbs for about 35 years and I can see the usefulness of this tool, especially for somebody without much experience with carbureted engines. Widebands were a game changers but this tool knocks it out of the park. You have managed to apply technology from your day job to one of your passions. I hope you sell a ton of these or somebody like Holley writes you a big fat check. I know a lot of people with 15 year’s experience with a specific technology and they have mastered it, just as you have. On the flip side, I also know a lot of people with 1 year of experience, 15 times. Big difference between the two. Good luck with sales!

Not only does the Carb Cheater bridge the gap between carburetion and fuel injection (blind analog and full digital datalog), it invites the user to become more familiar with the nuances of their engine's tuning characteristics. The Carb Cheater is a stand-alone unit that does NOT need a phone to do its job after initial setup. The App and phone interface is providing data that is handy for tuning, operation, and satisfying curiosity of how your engine is doing at any moment. So my understanding is that Carb Cheater operates by continuously monitoring exhaust CO via wide band sensor, with this data the control module corrects for overly rich Air/Fuel via controlled vacuum release by IAC valve to maintain closest possible 14:1 Air/Fuel ratio? This is the technology the Auto manf. used to control carbs before going to fuel injection. Although with your product it allows this tunability available for any carbureted engine. Thanks for making this available to purchase. With the correct marketing, and production... this will be a very successful business for you.

That's a great suggestion that you can do to show us! All you need is a Carb Cheater (CC) kit & baseplate chosen for a more modern carbureted car you own. Then for that old model T or Buic make a custom insulated baseplate to fit the old car manifold & carburetor, with fittings just like on the CC kit you bought. Install & tune... then away you go! Anything that has a carburetor & ran on gasoline should run better with a CC kit. Heck even a riding mower will run better with a CC kit. Be the first person to do it & let us know your results! 🇨🇦 So in a nutshell if you tune your carb ever so slightly rich throughout its operational range the Carb Cheater with it's controlled vacuum leak will bring it back to the target AFR of your choosing. Conversely though if your carb is tuned too lean during some part of it's operation the Carb Cheater won't be able to hit the desired AFR because it doesn't have a provision to add fuel. Have I got this correct. 🇨🇦
@ThunderHead289
11 ай бұрын
That is correct - if your leaner than 15, jet richer - a user can see that right in front of their face, and they will definitely know they are lean. That's getting into danger territory at a prolonged cruise and should be actively avoided
@researchandbuild1751
11 ай бұрын
@@ThunderHead289 Hmm I'm having a dumb moment. If you tune the carb slightly rich, how could a vacuum *leak* make it leaner? Wouldn't you have to add more air to lean it out? A leak would remove air. I'm getting myself confused. OOOH I think I get it, the air comes INTO the engine through the vacuum leak, "behind" the carb, to lean it out. Ok. I guess what I'm wondering in addition though is will this actually cause "less fuel" to come in through the carb itself? Or is it just adding more air to lean the fuel out? In other words, if you carb is set to rich, it uses more fuel. Do you think it would continue to release that same amount of fuel? Or will the vacuum leak cause "less vacuum" on the carb plates too, thus decreasing the fuel coming in? Interestingly the concept seems like it might work two ways at the same time - it lets more air into the cylinder which can lean it out, AND it in theory could cause less fuel to be pulled through the carb, thus also leaning out. Meaning it's a multivariable problem (one variable causes two other variables to change at the same time) which is complex.
@16vSciroccoboi
11 ай бұрын
@@researchandbuild1751 adding a vacuum leak will cause less fuel to be drawn through the carb. The carb meters fuel due to airflow through it, if you flow air around it, it meters less fuel. Routing the air around the carb causes the mixture to lean out because it's adding air, but at the same time for a given rpm/load the carb will supply less fuel since that air isn't flowing through it.

I have the same carbs on multiple 83 Mazda B2000's, four cylinders, five speed. Hopefully he will see these and put a bit of focus on Webers. They are the go-to upgrade for these trucks and tons of old VW's.

love it love the concepts simlicity . Man i hope to see 'availible in AUSTRALIA ' soon. i reckon i can use 3 of them just myself, let alone how many thinking about everyone other of my mates. (suggestrion make clearer that the phone is only for setup tuning and doesnt need to remain connected to allow continued operation from day to day. also that can use a tablet or any android powered device in place of phone if availible) thx

Would it be possible to add the CC valve output to the data stream? This way you could see how much the CC is compensating throughout the data log. It would show you when/if the CC maxes out during the run. Also, are these devices remotely upgradeable if you release new software/firmware in the future?

Hey Luke I might have to try one of these. I have a question on the Napa Gold oil filter I put on my 390. My first short block build. Just broke in the cam for about 45 min sounded so good didnt want to shut it off. Neighbors loved it too. My oil pressure stayed right at 50 and temp was 190. Took the filter off and it was empty., just a few drips. Do these drain into the pan? Back in the 80s I remember the orange filters being full of oil. Yes its mounted on its side for my 72 f250 truck. I going to put a Wix on tomorrow and will prime it with filter off to see what comes out. It has to have the oil going trough it or never would have ran that long.

Definitely sharing your product with my friends, we like carbs and something like this is totally going to help us take some of the slop out of our own tuning abilities. Appreciate the effort man! Btw, who's the band in your into/outro music? Sounds alot like AIC but I don't recognize it...

I have thought of a couple more questions. I'm thinking about this for my daily driver slant six. Will this bump the idle up when the a/c kicks on, or at least try to keep the engine running? And then, how will it do with a large cam? Will it try to smooth it out? Again, my daily driver, has relatively large, lumpy cam in it. Like you, I'm more than confident in my tuning abilities, but I'm shooting for the most powerful, economical, daily driver slant six; currently I am at 240hp and average 25mpg. I don't expect this to gain me much more power, but possibly more mileage. The thought has crossed my mind, but I doubt I would ever do it to this car, but would this work well in a blow-through application, or would draw-through be better? Dual quads? I know you're still in the early stages and I'm sorry for asking a lot.

When you had your Maverick out there on the race track somebody else made a segment of you for their channel. He was restrained in his commentary. She had no idea why you had done this with your Maverick you know about a 10ft tall pipe between the carb and the intake. There's several comments about moonshiners and so forth. There were just as many people saying hey this guy's from Iowa look up his channel. Congratulations you're riding almost 300,000 subscribers. Nice item put together the carb cheater. I know my dad but have gotten a blast out of this. Back in the day on his 235 straits Chevy 6 he had water mist applicator hook into his carburetor. Hair done at the things. Please play 24 inch spacers in between the carburetor and intake manifold. Just depending on the engine. thanks for bringing those thoughts back.

how well do you think one of these would work on a ford modelA? even with a fully gone through carburetor and fairly good tune. the crude carberator doesn't work the greatest or most accurate. curious if id be able to use it.
