So true! earbud use on multi use trails should be outlawed! Its a hazard to the person wearing them and others using the trail / path. The other issue is dogs should be on leashes! My biggest pet peeve when riding a bike path or multi use trail is a person wearing earbuds with the volume so high I can hear the music from 10 yards behind as I approach. They are oblivious to my "coming up on your left" call out. And they have an unleashed dog that's crossing the trail back and forth 20 yards in front of them. I would feel worse about hitting the dog than the person because the dog didn't know any better!

I'm a cyclist and agree. But as to the donating money lets not forget we like everyone else are already tax payers. That said when you ride trails with people hiking, MTBer's need to have restraint and ride responsibly. To complain about a ticket for riding on a trail they know is illegal is ridiculous! Its like driving 70 in a 25mph zone then bitching about it when you get a ticket! You took your chance and got caught doing something not only illegal but also potentially dangerous to others Here in Oregon we see more "environmental" trail damage from the equine community than the MTB riders and yet its mostly the MTB community that organizes volunteer work parties to maintain the trails. Just glad I longer live in the Bay Area as it seems they go out of the way to create conflict down there! ( Side bar....I think headphones should be illegal on trails and bike paths. As the women said you can't hear people coming from behind you. It creates a hazard to the person with the headphones and others around them. More than once I've been riding a bike path and called out to a walker or jogger "coming up on your left" and they are completely oblivious as to my presence. I'm always concerned they will suddenly move into my line and create a collision situation)

Wow, treating a healthy recreational activity like a speed trap to max ticket quotas instead of patrolling the streets for criminals... Or ticketing motorized vehicles actually causing danger to citizens on our roadways. Sure go ahead and wear your organization's priorities, seemingly literally, on your sleeve there. This should not be an issue in 2022 in Northern California. Can you imagine claiming to be the home of mountain biking and then setting about criminalizing left and right? Here in SoCal we're losin trail access every year. And guess what happens? Unsanctioned, dangerous trail pop up and then people wanna wonder why people get hurt out there or why they are 'tearing up the environment'... All while developers can do WHATEVER they want for the right price to build more overpriced housing. If you're gonna sit on the trail, as opposed to responding to resident call ins, just ADMIT you're treating your citizens like a piggy bank. Might as well waste your time and go to a really busy street and ticket jaywalkers all day. Hope there's no "serve and protect" type motto on the side of the cars...

Mt Biking is a great way to reduce stress in our lives. As our sport has grown over the past 20 years the number of trails have not kept pace. I know that to the non Mt Biking community they would enjoy not having to share the trails with MT Bikers. By allowing us to ride the existing single track trails it would reduce the amount of traffic on the multiuse trail system. Its all about access for all, we all need an outlet from our day to day grind.

The officer is absolutely spot on. Mountain Bikers should not be riding on an undesignated trail. Environmental damage is done when riding on trails that are not designed for sustainability. IMBA has a whole program and even books about how a trail can be built to limit erosion. So this group of mountain bikers should be working towards being approved to build legitimate sustainable mountain bike trail if they want to ride in the parks. All the new (pandemic) mountain bikers don't pay attention to or even care about the environmental impact activities like mountain biking can have. In the 80s and 90s mountain bikers like myself realized parks were banning bikes because we were doing tons a damage to the environment. This is when IMBA was formed and many local trail groups formed to create good long lasting legitimate trails all over the country. It takes time, effort and working with land managers to come up with a good solid plan that works for everyone and all user groups.

Yeah good luck with that, ebrpd are the most anti mountain bikers in the area, we have tried for over a decade to do just that, emails, meeting, zoom meetings etc... Where did that get us? No where.. they made multiple single track trails for equestrian in Pleasanton ridge and other parks which by the way weights hundreds more pounds than the heaviest mountain biker. This is why we are fed up.

@@saetos28 So who says mountain bikers should always have access to all areas? Why not just go ride somewhere else. This whole fight seems silly. I could think of many areas in my state where I would like to ride, but it's restricted, so I ride where it isn't restricted and am okay with that.

@Shad Life the way you sound doesn't seem u are a mountain biker or stuck in your own world. EBRPD has the most land in the bay area why would we drive over an hour away for a legal trails where there are plenty within our area. Why do they build single trails for horse riders only (no hikers allowed) where they weigh hundreds more than the heaviest mountain biker and cause more environmental damage? Horses are not even native of our land. Think about it the horse community has a lot of money and they are only 1% of the users. Seems to me it's not about environmental erosion or safety but $$..look we pay taxes and all we are asking is be fair. The same illegal trail that was built a hiker will not get a ticket but a biker do, that same ilegal trail that a mtbers built.
@ShadLife

@@saetos28 Fair enough. Equestrian users do have a lot of money and political power. They do here also, so we always just avoid them where possible. They ride on all conditions, wet muddy and so on. I have seen a lot of damage done by horses. The Medora area (in South Dakota) has some of the most eroded terrain due to horses. So I get it. My point is if it's been a fight going on this long, why not just go elsewhere? But it is what it is I guess.....🤷♂️

@@ShadLife we have more voices this time around. The pandemic brought new people to the sport and all this new riders realized how pathetic EBRPD is. They pay taxes but not represented properly. For years equestrians and the hiker groups have lobbied heavily against us. For years all we are asking for is a trail or two, a fun one of course and we will maintain it our self no tax dollars (seems pretty fair don't u think) the only place we are allowed to ride are fire roads and they have to be 8ft wide or else it's illegal. Most hikers agree in the area that we need our separate trails on the decent for safety of hikers horses and bikers. U are very lucky in your area that u don't have to deal with as much bs as we do here. Ride safe brotha🤙🏽and ruber side down.

These conflicts are going to become more and more common as California continues to overpopulate. "If two people live in an apartment, and there are two bathrooms, then both have what I call freedom of the bathroom, go to the bathroom any time you want, and stay as long as you want to for whatever you need. And this to my way is ideal. And everyone believes in the freedom of the bathroom. It should be right there in the Constitution. But if you have 20 people in the apartment and two bathrooms, no matter how much every person believes in freedom of the bathroom, there is no such thing. You have to set up, you have to set up times for each person, you have to bang at the door, aren't you through yet, and so on. And in the same way, democracy cannot survive overpopulation. Human dignity cannot survive it. Convenience and decency cannot survive it." - Isaac Asmov

Big point here is that these cyclists are using this park to maintain their bodies health through a strenuous cardiovascular challenge. Mountain biking is the best thing you could ever do for your cardio vascular health. This keeps people alive and well. The bigger question here is if the concern is over the environment why not Consider polution and global climate geoengineering and stay off the little dirt hill that keeps people and their riding buddies mental and physically healthy. If you close down the positive physical outlets for people they will look for them in other areas which could lead to unhealthy things.
