When are you going to talk about the live action Netflix remake of one piece? It's not like other live action remakes, I would like to know about your perspective on the that remake. One piece's length is the reason why the second one piece anime is going to happen, because people who seen the live action remake trying to check out the anime have given up or didn't bother to watch it do it's length and toei animation studios habit of stretching out scenes and plots in every episode while adapting each chapter.

Oh my God what an amazing video, I'm so GLAD someone mentioned Arlongs strange fancy for Nami (to extension mayhaps even Koala) since how its set up and later revealed is le interesting to me. When she returns she's greeted fondly by the fishmen, she acts like one of them, and hides her true feelings for her facade. But then we see her origins, he killed her mother in front of her (i bet in some way it was cathartic for him to shoot a Marine huh *wink wink*) and the fishmen dragged her away from the village to force her draw maps, tormented her in many ways. Until the agreement that she can buy her Village back. Like Arlong had an epiphany that starving, slamming the kids head into walls and throwing her around like a football was far less motivating than dangling freedom and equality for her. Suddenly that prisoner became a pet for him. "I'll feed her, I'll buy her all the beautiful clothes she wants! she will want for nothing." It's very a horrible way to view someone but it's by far the best view he's had on a human. Then Arlong reveals Nami to have made many attempts on his life through their 8 years partnership. Especially important when one of the Fishman officers Kuroobi constantly has deep suspensions on Nami to be a traitor, when that was always the case but Arlong didn't care enough. His off comment remarks how she joined the same pirate crew that killed her mother and you can see how that makes Nami turn cold. Very cool arc, me thinks Nami was the most alluring characters Oda set up in East blue and that pay off was so epic. You're coverage on the Baratie was also amazing, just the little nice set-ups and emphasis you place on Mihawks, duel fights and their unity of dreams really opened my third eye. Same with all the other arcs covered here and their thematic importance running to this very day. Cant wait for you to cover future arcs! I've seen so many people crap all over those I've come to adore like Skypiea, longringlong isle, thrillerbark or fishman isle (saying its skippable, filler or mid. it just goes to show that most One piece fans are crazy and have no idea what they're talking about) but clearly you're on a higher plane of existence ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

One thing i love about Usopp in the East Blue Saga is the fact that you can already see him being a Jack of All Trades, he can cook, draw, craft and repair things, all of these skills reflect the childhood that Usopp had, he became an orphan almost one decade before Kuro attacked the Village and in that time, he had no one to take care of him, or at least someone familiar, so eventually he had to learn to cook for himself, not only that, but Usopp probably started talking to Kaya and formed the Usopp Pirates 2-3 years before the main events, but between him losing his mother and meeting Kaya, he probably had a lot of free time even after running everyday screaming for "Pirates", where i suspect he spent that time drawing, crafting and even making traps, that's why Usopp has so many skills related to create, because Usopp loves creating, and you can see that with most little actions from Him, i love Oda and his storywriting man, Oda is truly the GOAT.

When MelonTeee retold Nami’s story and about Bell-mére’s sacrifice, I couldn’t stop thinking about how much it parallels to Law’s own story and his relationship with Corazon. The unconditional love both parents had for their kids, the devotion those kids had for their parents after their deaths, the witnessing of their parents passing, and the tattoos they got to represent the love they had for their parent. Not to mention both Nami and Law worked for the same person who killed their caretaker. They make me so sick I love Nami and Law so much. 😞❤️

Oda often portrays food = kindness/love. Starvation and famine (like in Wano) are some of the worst acts of cruelty against humanity. Oda keeps trying to say everyone should have a seat at the banquet and to feast, there is enough for everyone. That's why Luffy always throws parties with feasts.

Zoro gives Nami a thumbs-down because he's physically exhausted. He's probably trying to give her a thumbs up but can't quite muster up the muscle to do so all the way. The reason why this touches Nami emotionally is because this is both him silently saying to her "I got your back" and also "I might look like hell, but I'm seeing this through to the end." This is punctuated by him telling Sanji that he can only do this for not even a full minute longer. Zoro's role in the final act of the Arlong Park saga is that he doesn't have to "win" his fights to "never lose." He can be an anchor even when he's suffering because he has the strength to carry his crew even in sickness. He can't give a proper thumbs up, but he sure as hell can prove he can the intention behind it. Considering that Zoro is also consistently the most critical of Nami's behavior (and interestingly, one of Nami's closest friends on the crew later in the story *wink wink* ) his constant iron-clad defense of her speaks wonders to how highly he thinks of her.

Knowing Tiger's story gives a bit of a new meaning to Arlong's line about "dying for foolish love", as of course he would see it that way, since what happened around Koala, and after even him was resigning himself to having her around for a moment. I think maybe Arlong was beginning to reluctantly believe Tiger in that the revenge againt humans would not be that necessary or just. Of course given his previous views, that would only set him back and get even deeper in his bitterness.

Watching the intro to the Baratie section and it reminded me of what the “Drop the Pizza”channel points out in their theory presentations. When asked in an SBS what his definition of “Justice” is, Oda’s response was “Anpanman.” For those who don’t know, Anpanman is a children’s cartoon that’s been around forever in Japan and pretty much all Japanese people have watched/interacted with the franchise. The creator of Anpanman famously once described a scene he saw in the fallout of the nuclear weapons: two children sharing riceballs. He would go on to say something along the lines of “there is only one true justice in the world. No matter your beliefs or allies, sharing food with another is the only thing that will ever be an unquestionable justice.” Throughout the story, food is a very big driver of the plot and with the context from this one SBS, it starts to make sense that maybe Oda also believes the same. Sorry for the essay!

Hey MelonTeee! Just want to say thank you for all of your videos, they along with the live action are what really endeared me to the One Piece world. They have accompanied my year long journey of beginning and catching up on the anime. Your videos are a delight, not only eye-opening on story and lore but also incredibly entertaining! I also wanted to say something that I realized while watching this, though it's for way way down the line. The parallels of Bellmere refusing to say Nami and Nojiko aren't her children to save her own life, and Nami later refusing to say Luffy wouldn't be King of the Pirates in Wano to save her own as well really got to me. I've only ever seen people attribute that to Nami's loyalty to Luffy, and I think that's also true. But I think it's also important how it reflects how much Bellmere affected Nami even years later. There are so many of Bellmere's core values that I see in Nami, even if they go about it in their own ways, and I think that's lovely!
@MelonTeee

I would say an amazing video as always, but you've really knocked it out of the park with your analysis and care when looking back. I am excited for the future of this new series of videos, not only into what makes these arcs so great but also how they play into everything going forward. As for East Blue, you pretty much sum it all up what makes it such an amazing start. Thinking about how everything started it's almost amazing how much Oda builds on it in the arc after. Thinking about how much more independent Sanji is after tying himself to the Baratie for so long, realizing things won't fall apart if he's gone. How Nami's gag of leaving to go back home after finding out about Mr. 0's identity, is not only hilarious, but also shows that part of Nami's life is in her still where she could easily abandon a score if got too dangerous. Luffy's lesson from Vivi about how there are more ways to put your life on the line than just fighting, and so much more. Wish you the best!

Epic video. It's been a blast to watch this in sprints over a few days. I always love your analysis, and it's so cool to see you tackling the sagas now :) Thanks for pushing through all the writing and filming and editing this must have taken.

Also regarding the first chapter, Shanks completely changes what we and Luffy believe makes a man a man. A man doesn't need to fight someone's words or spills with his fists, he laughs it off as the better man. But if that person targets someone they care about, a man will always fight to protect them, especially if they can't fight on their own. This is emphasized later in Jaya with the bar scene and when Luffy finally confronts Bellamy.

this is such a good take, its rarely emphasized but this is one of the core formative values for luffy, and it came from shanks.

Shoutout to the translators of One Piece through the ages. If I know anything about Japanese, it is that basically anything has muliple meanings, and OP uses that A LOT. Despite some stumplings here and there (Zolo lol) there is so much important word choice being done through the series. Logue town is an easy example. It's the Epi-Louge of East Blue, and the Pro-Logue to the Grandline. Tribute by Arlong is another one mentioned in this video, which was attributed to Oda, which I'm not quite sure is fair 😁

The longer your videos are, the happier I am. Especially because you like to focus on things that I also enjoy focusing on. The simple cause-effect reactions of events are also interesting, but they make up a very small percentage of what One Piece is all about. My friends got tired and stopped reading it because they can't go beyond the surface, beyond the simple concrete events. I suggest they read One Piece on a psychological and emotional level, but I understand that, without this aspect, it’s possible that One Piece could wear readers out in the long run. However, it's a real shame to focus only on the surface. As for the video, you’ve outdone yourself. Great job, you said a lot of very interesting things and, as often happens with your videos, things I hadn’t reflected on enough. In most cases, you gave voice to thoughts I had understood but hadn't been able to share with anyone, so they remained unconscious. I can't wait to see the continuation of this video series. Greetings and kisses from Italy.

I don’t know if it was the intention but after Baratie, Luffy says that Zeff said that some call the grand line “Paradise” and we learn when they are going to the new world that this is how pirates on new world call the first half of the grand line
