I remember the uproar too. I think this version is fine. Most soaps moved on and updated their tunes, but Eastenders got stuck in the 80s because of the fan uproar. I wish Neighbours had been forced to keep its 80s tune, the new versions aren't as good.

I think because Dot was such a popular character (and still is) the public would refer to her outright as Dot Cotton as opposed to "Dot from EastEnders". Hence why she was credited with her surname. Probably way off here lol, but it's just my theory. She's been a Branning for 10 years now, but the press and public still say Dot Cotton.......and rightly so :P

This version of the tune is great - the only bad part is the saxophone, which makes it sound slick, schmaltzy and Carribean. If you replaced the sax with the iconic "whistle" noise, this would have been an excellent update. Oh and this has reminded me how long end credits used to be! I remember now, whenever you changed channel, half the time it would be on end credits, so you'd have to sit there for 5 minutes waiting to see what was on next (unless the channel was closing down for the night) LOL
