The six main bells of the parish church of San Domenico, the second largest church in the city of Legnano (Milan, Italy), ring in solemn concert on Easter Sunday. The bell tower has seven bells, cast by the Ottolina Brothers in 1927, which compose two different musical scales. The main bells are pitched on the diatonic scale of A major; there is also a seventh bell so that concerts can also be played on the diatonic scale of B major.
In the Middle Ages, the area where the church of San Domenico stands today was open countryside until a small church was built in 1757. The neighbourhood was growing and it was necessary to build a real, much larger church. The foundation stone for the new church was laid on 16 April 1900, thanks to huge donations of money and land. The new parish of San Domenico was created on 3 January 1907 by Cardinal Ferrari, who solemnly consecrated the new temple on 30 March 1908. The building is very rich in art: next to the very elegant pulpits are bronze candelabra and some lamps of Byzantine origin.
