It has risen.
On this little speck of the planet where I’m currently at, the sun came up, giving me light, warmth, and essentially life; similar to that of the Maker of sun, planet, and myself.
A theme (or analogy) I enjoy that I’ve heard in various forms over the years from different pastors is that of the solar system and how it relates to our spiritual condition. Here’s some random thoughts on it.
Before the time of Copernicus, many cultures (I’m told) understood the sun to be orbiting around the earth. We were “the center” in a sense. Because of this, it led to many scientific errors and misconceptions about other aspects of the earth and the universe. But, when we came to understand the correct nature of the solar system, those errors were resolved.
From a spiritual standpoint we live in a world (and always have since the beginning of time) where we currently have the same problem. We may acknowledge God (just like the sun) but we think of him as “orbiting” us. (and I do mean “we” for I am the most guilty person I know of it).
This mistake, I believe, has naturally lead to many other misconceptions and errors about ourselves, the world, and God himself. This distorted “view” of who, and where he is in our lives leads to distortions in every area of our lives.
But when it is corrected; when the nature our heart’s “solar system” (i know that sounds silly) is revised to reality, then all other corrections I think will follow.
When I see that the center is not only God himself but His very Glory; that I was made not for my own glory but for His...I feel everything else begins to fall into place.
“...bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth,
everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory.” -Isaiah 43:6-7
He has indeed risen. And he did it for this very purpose. Happy Easter.
“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” -Augustine
