Just came up on one of these today at Balm Boyette Nature Preserve Florida. First time I’ve ever had one coil up on me. Beautiful creature!

Would be nice to have contrasting distribution maps of the ED vs the timber rattlesnake for educational considerations. Very neat animal & 'our' King Cobra.

Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake Crotalus Adamanteus 6 sightings in the past ten years all in Onslow County Camp Lejeune. Timber/Canebrake rattlesnake Crotalus horridus is the same species of pitviper they live in the Coastal plains and long leaf pine forest also in the mountains of NC.

@@NCWildlifeResourcesCommission That's awesome. A lot of us have been led to believe that the eastern diamondback was extirpated in our state. What county was this snake found in?

@@johngarnergarner6724 Not entirely sure, as the footage was from Carolina Outdoor Journal. They are mostly found in the southern coastal counties. herpsofnc.org/eastern-diamondback-rattlesnake/

@@Boza_ Man that's amazing. Where did you see it? Was it near Smithfield? I live in Wake County and have never seen a rattlesnake. I do know someone who showed me a picture of one that he said his son took near Goldsboro a few years ago.

I live in northwest Florida, and my sweet little pup Kelly was bitten by one of these things in my own backyard! I could not afford the antivenom, and she died. I will NEVER forgive the snake that put her through such a painful death! We have so much trouble with venomous snakes in my area (Okaloosa County.) When people think of Florida, they think of beaches, but it is Wild Kingdom here!

Sorry to hear for your loss, I would be devastated. Can’t really blame the snake though, it was only trying to protect itself
