After nearly a two month rehab at Salthaven, this eastern screech owl was ready to go home.
It came to us with head trauma, its left eye filled with blood and swollen shut and, for a while, it wasn’t flying.
Over time, the owl showed steady progress, regained the strength to fly, and eventually the blood in the eye cleared.
Owls rely on their hearing to hunt as much as their sight, so after we tested its ability to successfully hunt, we were confident it was ready to be released.
