Hello Sandy. As an Eagle Scout, we would go camping often. There were times that we would get caught in the rain but generally had plans for keeping our wood and ourselves dry, but this was not always the case back then because the closest thing to internet we had was the interstate. Have good days!

We have had an Axis splitter for a few years now. Some times a block will wont to come out of the wedge at you and it is better that your hands are on it to protect your chest and with your hands on it you can feel if it starts to move or slip on the bed. They do a nice job and the speed is nice. Can get a lot done in a day with one of those. And always keep your thumbs off the top of the block.

Thanks Sandy. A friend & I had a Permanent Seasonal site for over 33 some odd Years. Now that I have My own woods, We set up a Tent camp site out in the woods. It got to the Point where it was not economically fun to go out there anymore. Since I moved to My new place it was 42 Miles to get there. Now I just make a small trip through the woods on a walking trail.. You might know this already that You move the wedge stop on the return stroke so it does not go all the way up. have it stop just above the wood to split. Shortens the cycle time.

Put a portable air source on your tractor to blow them nests out for future experiences 😊 My dad had something he would replace a spark plug and it would air up the tractor tires when needed and not close to the property ! Simple and quick 👍

Anytime I bought wood at Ontario Parks sites it was either green or wet or both. I usually took my own, like you or if necessary bought from nearby folks who had roadside stands.

Looks like a nice splitter, how much does it press, 25 tons or so? I just have a small 6 ton splitter, but only use firewood as a secondary means of heating, so our need is not that great. A few cubic meters per year does the trick. Mostly splitting European Beech, birch and larch, which 6 tons of pressure does a number on most of the time 🙂 Take care.

Hey there Brian! Having another source for heating is a great idea. I’m not too sure on the tonnage to be honest. I haven’t found anything I couldn’t split yet though

Can I ask your opinion between the Axis and the Ultra? I'm considering the Ultra, but I like the idea of the upright position of the Axis. As a guy that has ha both machines, what would you prefer for 40-50 full cords per year.
@sawingwithsandy
Ай бұрын
I find the conveyor is nice on the Axis for limiting the amount of handling of the firewood. I like both machines however. I think I'd be equally happy with the Ultra as the Axis but I do find the Axis allows for me to make better quality firewood since I can determine where the split takes place. This is especially true when I'm splitting wood with lots of knots in it. I also find I never have to resplit anything with the Axis but the Ultra I may have to take a piece I just split and split it again if it's still too big.

Not like you to run a chain that dull in a video...or were you just trying to char the ends of the firewood so they would light more easily in camp? 😊

I thought you had an ignition short and got zapped by the magneto spark the way you jumped. As for selling firewood, talk to the park rangers. Do they supply the wood? Supply the cubic foot totes? How great a quantity do they require? It's hard to say at this point, Sandy. You could make a nice little profit, or you could spend a dollar to get a dollar back. Another idea, maybe trade them "X" quantity of split wood for "X" number of days free camping.
@sawingwithsandy
2 ай бұрын
Hey there Carl! Since the parks are run by the provincial government I’m guessing the contracts for supplying firewood are likely bid on similar to other government work. I’ll have to ask them some time just to see what they pay the supplier
