I'm not a reefer, but I have an obsession over these little trees! Want to get different species but that has to wait for now, and I have mine growing in a Home Depot bucket! They are red mangroves and growing in fresh water cause its easier 😁

I am fortunate to live in an area where mangrove pods wash up on the local beach. I grabbed a few a couple weeks ago and placed them in fresh water. They are growing roots on the bottom and whatever you call the thing on top LOL. It looks like a thorn but leaves may grow out of it one day. I'm going to grow in a bowl, didn't think about turning it into a fish aquarium until I saw your video. Thanks for the video to help get me started!

I Loved the round vase you r using. I had 11 mangroves seedling from ebay 6 yrs ago which I grew them in my salt water aquarium. 4 months ago I shutdown my aquarium and I am using it in fresh water vase. In fresh water the growth is faster compared to a very very slow growth in a salt water. You only need to spray fresh water on the leaves on a weekly basis whether they are in salt or fresh water. I am hoping my setup will produce some seedlings but not sure how large the plant has to be before I starts producing them. I would love to see an update on your setup.

My mangroves are becoming to big for my tank, Any ideas please? I'm thinking of starting a reef pond with leather corals and local caught tangs, angels and other tropical marine fish and I've got a huge bowl where I can transplant them when I have the finances to start the pond. I'm in Durban , South Africa. I have all the species of mangroves here as I'm rescuing pods that will be on the beach rubbish bin to be destroyed by the beach maintanance people.

Hey there, nice overview, can you give some tips how often to change water or make ir clear when it gets dirty over time. Which and how often do you use fertilizer?
@kingtidecorals
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video! I change the water now whenever I feel suit and the water has clouded slightly. I’ll make up some water to the matching salinity of the bowl (1.010 specific gravity) and then use a small hose covered by mesh to remove water and no shrimp! No fertilizer added to the system as of now.

@@kingtidecorals Thanks for your quick response. I started my mangrove glas pot one month ago. The seller told me once I have added salt to the pot i only should add distilled water not to accumulate more and more salt.
@kingtidecorals
2 жыл бұрын
@@theobaldvonthorhausen3049 absolutely. If you’re just topping off your container then add fresh water. When I do complete water changes I add back water as the same specific gravity as the bowl once was before. Yes though, when topping off your container add fresh water

This is a fun setup. Once you get is to full salinity and get the lagoon going again are you going to cycle that water through the mangroves during water changes?
@kingtidecorals
3 жыл бұрын
Originally what I was doing ever so slightly when I first received these but after the move I kept them in straight RODI to minimize and stress for them... now that we have settled and the lagoon gets going with some nutrient enriched water I’ll start adding it over and trying to get them to salinity! As for now though just going to enjoy them as they are! Thanks for stopping and checking this one out!
