my grandma used to do something similar with pie crust scraps! we'd call them pinwheels, she would take whatever scraps were leftover, roll it out in one solid piece, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, roll it up like a log, and then cut it into 'cookies'. they're nice and crispy and sweet, perfect little snacks.

Hey John, I just want to say that I watch many different baking channels, but yours is bar far the best. Your clear instructions accompanied by your easy-to-follow web page and the printed recipe make you head and shoulders above the rest. If I can't find a recipe for something that I want to make, that you haven't done, it makes me sad. You are the best. Now, I know that you have help with your filming and editing, and he does a great job as well. Also, I love that you keep in your mistakes. We all make them, but it just makes watching you all the more enjoyable. Keep up the good work!

I taught a three year old how to make scrambled eggs. He learned to watch the hot pan. He stirred the eggs with a super long handle. I blocked his arms from the pan the whole time. He crushed the egg shells with his hands. I say let them cut the apple with a kid knife (no blade) - a crispy apple is easy to do this with - and let them watch the butter melt and stir the bits. Not for all three year olds, but some, for sure! He also like to help me with coffee. He would do the cutest thing: he'd smell the grounds and throw his head back and go "Mmmm!" So cute! Watch a lot of your content. Amazing food! Thank you!

You're so much fun to just watch, had to let you know, lol. Thank you for sharing your fantastic recipes and "how-to" videos. I canned apple pie filling (14 quarts) and we love it so I made more. In the second batch, instead of slices for traditional pie, I used a dicer to make more of an "apple dessert"- perfect for adding to muffins, in fritters, and other recipes. Not really big on pumpkiny flavors here, but apple? All day long. Two batches, a combined finished amount of 4 gallons. Yeah, I was happy to have it done. Lol. Can't wait to use my canned apples in your recipes!

An apple turnover in France is called a "Chausson aux pommes" (which means apple slipper as in the house shoe). It is made with a sweet apple filling inside a "pâte feuilletée" (puff pastry). As for the story behind it, I don't know it but it sounds correct as France used to suffer often from famines, which is where we got dishes such as "Gigot d'agneau" or "Blanquette de veau"and other big family recipes that can be left in the pot for days and stay good.
