Rusted bolts that won’t loosen (great to have around garage)? amzn.to/2MvjKfj
Really easy job for homeowner! All you need is the above tools. The two things that will make this job harder is if the water shutoff valve doesn’t work (knob on wall you use to shutoff water to toilet) and if your bolts that secure tank to toilet are rusted and you can’t unscrew nuts. You will know if the water shutoff doesn’t work if, once you turn off water (or you think you did), the tank fills up after you flush to empty water. At this point, you need to either turn off water to the house or replace water shutoff. Rusted bolts would require either a metal cutting saw/sawzall OR if your patient use PB Blaster (link above)…this is amazing stuff that is great to have around the garage for a number of projects.
Project steps:
Turn off water
Empty tank of as much water as you can
Remove water line to toilet and unscrew nuts on either side of tank
Remove tank and gasket at bottom of tank
Replace gasket with correct sized gasket
Secure tank back onto toilet (hand tighten water line to tank and secure bolts with nuts)
Turn water back on and let tank fill
Flush multiple times to ensure leak is fixed!
