Very grateful for this recipe, Bumbi. I tried it last night (minus the cumin seeds and the ginger, which I didn't have) and I was delighted with the results. I first came across this dish in 2012 in Sudder Street Calcutta. I used to have it for breakfast in one of the street stalls, together with chai, fried egg and toasted bread - delicious! One positive about lockdown is that my cooking is becoming more adventurous, and I have added quite a few things to my repertoire. I am looking forward to trying out some of your other dishes soon. Kind regards to you!

Hi Bumbi. One issue I'm having with this is the canned chickpeas themselves taste a bit dry/bland/hard. I am using KTC brand. Is there any way to make the chickpeas taste better?

Followed the recipe to the letter, and it was pretty bland and lacking in flavor. I'm Nigerian and cook with spices regularly, so I'm used to that. Definitely would recommend doubling your spices (maybe not the pepper as it was a bit spicy.)
@CurriesWithBumbi
2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. If you like it to be more spicy then definitely increase the proportions according to your preference. As I always say, do a taste test at the end and add more seasonings according to your preference.

I made this recipe and it turned out excellent. It tasted even better the next day or am I imagining it? I also soaked the can of chickpeas with a teabag in warm water, which I discarded when I cooked the peas. Thank you for this recipe. I am going to try the chicken meatballs next time. I also like the fact that you remind us about how much heat to apply at every stage. Most videos assume we know the difference between cooking spices on high heat or low heat. I made a mess in the past trying to cook on med high heat when medium heat was required.

You can always add a sprinkle of water while warming but that will dilute the flavor a bit. I would say add just a little bit more of water while cooking . The next day first warm it up without adding any water. If you feel everything is looking too dry after warming up , then you can definitely sprinkle some water and warm up again. Hope this helps.

Welcome to Curries With Bumbi. I am glad you are here. If you are making for kids then add very less chilli powder or just leave it out. Glad you liked it and thanks for your feedback

I think this is the best comment I ever got since I started my KZitem channel!!!! For a 15 month old baby the chickpeas need to be cotton soft. Looking forward to hearing from you whether baby liked it or not . Thanks a lot for your lovely comment.
