I am currently hosting a challenge on my Discord where the goal is to create something by mainly using the Extrude mesh and Scale elements nodes, you should join if you think it sounds interesting! Discord link: discord.gg/T4KS2rFC2Q

Khamurai is the only one who explains what each geometry node does or is used for, other channels dont bother to explain, ...thank you! ☺️👍💙

I hope it's helpful even though I try to keep the explanations short, thanks for watching!

When the extrude node was added, I couldn't stop making it the focus of my noodling for the whole week. So fun. Personally I preferred the self-lit version of your object before you added the area lights, but your ground shadows added a nice touch of realistic perspective. Also, your living/breath-like animation during the outro was so satisfying. Another great video 👍

I know right? It's just so easy to work with and you only need a couple of nodes to get awesome results :o

This is absolutely brilliant! I also didn't know that lens distortion is such a simple yet tasteful compositing effect.

This was so good. I added a randomiser to some of the values and some of the results are out of this world.

So, was this the video from which CGMatter/Default Cube took the inset from? Should be its own node imo.

"In a previous video" -- Which video was that? Great Videos, love your process as well as your results. Perhaps grouping the nodes would also prove useful for applying them to other mesh objects as well.

This one: kzitem.info/news/bejne/ooqfu2WKaWh2oIY Absolutely, connecting the values to the input would make it a pretty flexible node group, or you can use the group input instead of a mesh primitive to apply the modifier to any mesh

Great tutorial At minute 2.28 you reduce the offset scale to 0.0150, which you do not mention. This is why my attempted failed two times previously.

Another excellent video Khamurai. But the moment I attempt to make an AO material - specifically connecting AO + colour ramp to a P BSDF base colour - I get the "Loading render kernels" forever bug.
@Khamurai

Which Blender version are you using? Are you using CUDA or OptiX? Have you verified that it is specifically the AO node that triggers it? If you create a completely new file and add an AO node to the default material on the default cube, does the same happen there? Does it happen if you enter rendered view before you connect the AO node?

There's no point in using lens distortion node unless you are trying to emulate a specific camera lens (with correct camera values and such) or destroy the image with chromatic aberration (which could be used effectively in some abstract art). When you just go for a studio shot of an object this tiny amount of distortion you've set up only serves to mess up the scale of the image (because "fit" is checked) while adding no real value to it. When it comes to professional photography, both barrel distortion and chromatic aberration are undesirable byproducts and are mitigated as much as possible. Besides, the compositor is still quite weak when it comes to emulating lens artefacts, I mean, even making a decent lens flare is a hassle haha

My point of view is that if I like how it looks then there is a point, I'm not really concerned with physical accuracy or adhering to the rules and limitations of photography

@@Khamurai I'm the same, I usually do abstract stuff so I totally eyeball camera values and such most of the time, it's just that personally I don't particularly like when the image has messed up scale due to the node, I prefer it being crisp since it's an abstract image anyway. You should totally try and emulate some lenses though, it's going to give you a different perspective on realistic rendering, especially given the fact that camerawork is mega important when it comes to "selling" the image.
@Khamurai

@山田太郎 Yeah of course that's good advice if you want to emulate realism, you are free to not use the lens distortion node though, I'm not going to stop you ;D
