Timing! I’m painting a Mando helmet right now, and this came at just the right time. I went to a local car tinting service and asked for an off cut. I was expecting a piece about the size of a sheet of paper. They gave me a few feet. More than enough for what I need. Seems once you say “I’m making a Mandalorian helmet”, everyone wants to help you. Thanks for this video.

Love seeing stuff like this, late to the game but another few bits of advice for the window tint stuff. If you can, get a hold of some air release tail light tint, might not be as dark but stack them like stated in the video. You'll have such an easier time applying this to the visors with less air bubbles. If you ever get them and can't waste any tint, use your blade to poke the bubble, apply a touch of heat from the heat gun and work the air out to the pinhole. Another touch would be to also have tac rags, taking the protective plastic causes a lot of static, especially with acrylic. You have no idea how much dust that will attract and will cause air bubbles and horrible specs. Best part, just practice and try have fun. Rome wasn't built in a day. Hope this helps at least someone.

window tint thats genius! ima just cut up water bottles and heat form them! Edit / Update : it worked really good and saved me a bunch of money HOWEVER make sure to actually follow the tutorial and not just "wing it" My first time did also come out bubbly. and i did forget the overhang so i had glue parts on my visor 100% my fault though. i also learned that rubing a bit of water + dishsoap on the inside before you wear it will prevent it from fogging up from breathing. also i ended up using one of those clear boxes from gummy bears and it worked pretty well. make sure to test beforehand if you can heatform it. also highly recommend investeing in a neck fan / ventilator it is a LIFE SAVER! all in all genius tutorial saves you money like everything needs practice.

I never was able to bend it with the foil on the inside of the visor. It gets compressed by the visor's curvature and bubbles start appearing after a few hours. I would STRONGLY recommend having the foil on the outside of the curve so it's under slight stretching tension. And Jeez. I've never figured out the velcro trick. It's such a better solution to just gluing the visor it...

if you haven't figured it out by now, there's 1 way window tint available for cheap, or there's "tint in a can" that has a good effect but more for display pieces, or there's reflective tint that @galacticarmory uses for his star wars/halo helmet builds that's pretty cool and works in conjunction with dyeing the visor

How to tell which ones are good when every 3D site has like 50 versions?
