Looks fantastic!! But, at current cedar board prices, this would probably cost me $1,000 to build. 😂 I’m curious as to your opinion on the Total Boat varnish compared to a Spar Varnish? In your opinion , could I build it out regular pine board if it finished with either TBV or SV?

I love the design and just purchased the plans! I’m excited to get started but quick question on the cedar. A lot of the cedar in the lumber yards are green. Do you use green or dried cedar? If green, do I need to let it dry for a certain period of time before using it? Thanks!
@MakerGray
Жыл бұрын
Great question! I use green cedar and I've not let it dry for any of my outdoor projects yet. I've not had a problem with it warping, but if you really want to be safe, you could let it dry awhile. Hope this helps and thanks so much for getting the plans! Enjoy the build!

New subscriber and I really like the looks of this outdoor dining set. I paused the video to click through some of the product links (thank you for including them) and when I returned it looked like the tabletop had a great deal of undulation in it (timestop on the video is 12:14). Is that possibly because you only finished the top and not the bottom of the tabletop boards? I am wondering how I might make it lay flatter.
@MakerGray
8 ай бұрын
Hi and welcome! Yes, the bottom is unfinished. I never sanded or flattened the bottom because to me, it is unseen and unimportant. The top is flat, however :) To make the bottom flat, I would just turn the top over while it is still on the workbench and give it the same finishing treatment as the top. Thanks for watching!

Looks really nice especially with that finish. Did you just do 1 coat? Never thought about using my biscuit joiner to cut a long slot….. great idea!
@MakerGray

Thanks! I did just one coat of each part. I should probably do more, but I'll probably do it again next year to keep the finish up. And yeah I'm stoked about the biscuit joiner trick! Thanks for watching!

Thank you! If it's cedar, I usually buy from Lowes or McCoys. If it's hardwood or nicer wood, I usually buy from Fine Lumber.

Great looking and deserves a LIKE, which it got! But, is the whole of the table top supported on rails relying on pocket hole screws and glue (both under shear)? Don't try dancing on this one, eh?

Thank you! The top is not meant to be super structural and hold hundreds of pounds. However, I feel very comfortable standing on top of it if needed.

Can I know pl if the cedar board u used r pressure treated? I just spoke to the lumber yard and the guy said not suitable as table top. Do u know if i can get cedar 2x6 boards that r not treated. Txs
@MakerGray
Жыл бұрын
No, the cedar is not pressure treated. Cedar doesn't require chemicals because it is naturally water, rot and bug resistant. It is an excellent choice for a table top.

Hey Miss Grey. Awesome table and stool design! Wanted to let you know that a few of your links in the description and your pinned comment (what do you think?) have http: hyper links (rather than https:) the http links are unsecured and easily susceptible to scammers redirecting your potential customers (sales) to alternative pages and/or collect information on your customers off their computers (IP addresses, packets, ect) which can lead to theft and loss. You don't seem like you're in the business of ripping people off just looking to build cool things like the rest of us. So letting you know.
