@donyboy73, I've been a technician for several years. That noise is the belt tensioner hitting against it's stop limits due to a stretched belt. The Colorado, Canyon, Trailblazer, and H3 all have this issue. The repair is replacing the belt and tensioner. Many times the tensioner spring is weakend by the banging and rattling.

@@Sam-w9des :: Yes I do know the problem, you need to clean your throttle body. The problem you are experiencing: On startup, the rev will shoot up high, plunge low, almost stall (or make it sound like your truck will stall but never does) and then stabilizes. You may also be experiencing situations when you shift into neutral while slowing down and your truck shutters (Like it will stall and again, never does). If this sounds like your problem, I cleaned my throttle body and this went away. This was months ago i did this and the problem hasn't returned since, but I would imagine that the throttle body doesn't stay clean so it will require upkeep. It is a relatively easy thing to do, you can find videos on this - I suggest the website 355nation. Great knowledgable people on that site that have helped me immensely. Good luck fellow coloradoer! Hope to see you on the road ^_-

What a revelation. I have brought this concern up with two local chev dealers in Edmonton area since my truck was new. They wanted to do an extensive diagnostic investigation. I told them to leave it alone as I had read on other GM forums that this was normal and to not worry about it. I haven't worried about it and I now have 246,000K on it. Had water pump replaced at 226km and this seemed to have lessened the noise somewhat that has been there from day one. However they didn't change surpentine belt unless they did and didn't charge me. The classic cause of belt noise that temporarily improves with a new belt is sideslip as a result if misalignment. So, if it comes back after a few thousand miles, take a straight edge along the pulleys to find the one that is tilted off the plane of the others. On the other hand, I think your guess it is from a stretched belt is a good one. Perhaps the tensioner hit a rough spot and didn't work for a bit, then the belt stretched on one side. Once stretched, the floppy segment started to vibrate in tune with the system.

"Update: Saw your recent post on already replacing the Tensioner Pulley. Thanks for that update. Will leave the below, for anyone needing to replace the belt tensioner pulley on a similar vehicle as yours." Hey Don, Car repair!!!! A few posts have mentioned the tensioner pulley as well. I think it would be a good idea to investigate further. A lot of times, a brand new belt will mask a noise for a little while. Look at the belt tensioner pulley at the 1:55 - 2:01 mark of the video. I would say the spring steel inside the tensioner has lost its overall integrity, and I would recommend replacing it. Also, the tensioner is probably the factory original, and having 10 years on it, I would not be surprised by the decline in the overall performance of this part. Extra vibrations will be transferred from one bad part to another through the belt, and aid in other pulleys experiencing those extra vibrations, hence extra wear and tear on good pulleys. KZitem Video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/mp6FrnygaYCWhXo (torque spec 35-40 ft-lbs at 4min 25sec mark of video) Another link indicated 37 ft-lbs for the belt tensioner bolt. www.355nation.net/forum/i4-i5-engine-drivetrain/122049-torque-spec-belt-tensioner-idler-pulley.html Tools: After removing the belt, a 15 mm socket and/or 15 mm box wrench to loosen the idler pulley bolt. And a Torque wrench for proper tightening during re-installation. G & T (good and tight) with common sense also works too! But when I can, I use my torque wrenches. For the part, your local car parts store should carry. I believe the part is good for 2004-2012 Chevy Colorado. Check RockAuto.com for various parts online too. They ship to Canada as well. They are usually a lot less in price, and carry a variety of parts. And you can get an additional 5% off the price by using a "How did you hear about us" code during checkout (7229699764805701). I just tried that long number, and it is currently good. CONTINENTAL 49280, $28.99 (US$) Made in Canada too!! (there is a video on bad belt tensioner symptoms if you click on this part) DAYCO 89269 $41.99 (US$) ACDELCO 38178 $43.79 (US$) (note, aftermarket part) ACDELCO 12573024 $61.79 (US$) (OEM) It appears to not be too terrible difficult to perform, and one that could get done outside in cold weather too (if needed). Good luck! Any questions, or help with getting parts, always happy to help.

Idlers also like to make noise, too. I think you are supposed to replace those belts at about 60,000 miles, which is about the same as your 100,000 km. I would drain and replace the coolant, too, at about the same mileage and even the transmission fluid if it is brown. The key to the life of any vehicle is the condition of the fluids. You folks have to pay a lot more for parts than we have to. The last water pump belt I bought was about 30 odd bucks but it has been a while since I bought one, too.
