Great guide Michael, hope all is well. Love WP1 22d to home... Been giving myself a hard time for not chasing miles and "offshore" but loved the slow way south guide. Eventually you will hit a pot or do some damage on your own at night. Safe Watch

correction: At new moon there is also a spring tide. At half moon there is neap tide
@SailingGently

Erling your right! NOAA says: Spring tides always happen when the Moon is at the full or new phase, which is when the Sun, Moon and Earth are in alignment.

I am not sure any form of electronics are a adequate backup. Many years ago I even had a soaked and almost unreadable chart with a rogue wave in the Humber estuary! John

John I sort of agree although Merchant ships in the main no longer carry paper charts. And wet ones are a big problem as you point out!

Oguz it is almost impossible. The source I used - Tides End/Bellingdon Charts appear to have gone out of business... So do most of the 2nd hand chart companies...

I started sailing Robert in the channel out of the Hamble in the early '70s and loved it. In my own small 22ft cruising boats All youtube is intended to be entertaining or possibly interesting at best. I am saddened you hated this video as it was well intentioned - but you can't please all of the people all...............

Michael is an absolute legend and a pleasure to listen to. You would do well to seek out his other videos and find out a bit more about him before being so rude.
@robertstancer4469

@@SailingGently It's always the way. You praise someone and the puff and preen and strut like a peacock. You criticise someone and ooh, no they don't like that stop being persona, blah, blah, blah. No mate, you miss the point entirely. I used the words 'tutorial' and 'vocation. I am criticising YOU. You are not a tutor. Your presentation is slow, flat, soporific, monotone. You may have sailed up every channel, inlet, back passage known to man, but if you are not a communicator, you're not a communicator. I had skool teachers like you in the 60s/70s. Don't worry, you are in good company on You Tube, there are thousands of you on here, not all in boating. You seem to think to yourselves after watching a couple of videos, OH! i can do that 'cos anyone can do that. But if 18+ subbys then i must be wrong. BTW, do you want me to kill your hairdresser?

Everard you could be right, but merchant ships no longer carry paper charts, The Admiralty is going to stop printing paper charts. My sextant only got me to within 10 miles of my position and any one of my 6 separate GPS receivers will get me to within 10 feet of position.. Frankly 95% of of small boat sailors never go out of site of land and most of what I was on about was Pilotage.. But I guess it is a matter of opinion....
