The first time you use it, open the drain plug after sucking the oil out you see if any is left. Some motors it gets 100%, some not so much. that's how it must be done, otherwise the level isn't correct. just as a hint: check the oil-level on a straigt, not angled surface - if the car is a little bit "out of the water" (like left highter as right, or the rear is higher as the front), then the dipstick might shown not the correct oil-level. it even can change a little bit between cold and warm - so, it's okay when you don't fill it up to the top mark.

Rather than a $160 oil sucking vacuum and a pumping R2D2, you could just slide under the vehicle and open the oil pan drain plug with a ratchet and fill straight from the bottle with a funnel. A decent jack to lift the car is easily half the price and has more uses including tire changes. Just read your car manual or look up your VIN code (usually on the inside of the door or on the dashboard near the windshield) and it'll tell you what oil and how much.

Some of these comments are rediculous "oh Mercedes made it harder", "but what about the gunk", blah blah blah. Using the vacuum/fluid extractor makes it so you don't have to get down on the floor, or lift the vehicle up, remove the skid tray, unbolt the drain plug, get off the floor, wait for the oil to drain, get back onto the floor, reinstall the bolt, reinstall the skid tray, get back up off floor (or lower car), fill oil, replace filter and be done. With the machine, you literally do everything from the top of the car. Also if your engine has gunk, metal, or whatever left in the sump after a vacuum extraction, you have bigger issues than just an oil change.
