I like how short your video is. Some people talk too much and show too little. But you explained just enough and showed exactly what I needed to see and did it very quickly. Thank you for that. And now I am confident I can grow my own butter lettuce.

Thank you so much for this! It is the dead of winter right now haha, but I just bought a head of butter lettuce at the store because I saw it still had roots and figured I could do the same thing as I do with store bought green onions! I brought it home and harvested most of the outer leaves and made a big salad and gyros, then I planted him and his remaining 5 or so leaves in a 4 inch pot, gave him a little drink, and will put him under the grow light in a few days 😁 always been a fan of the “cut and come again” method, but this past summer, I sadly had let the heat get to my prizeleaf and red oak leaf heads and they bolted and I was sooo upset 😣 but now I have thousands of seeds at least, so the early spring is looking promising 😂 Love butter lettuce sooo much! The color, the texture, the SIZE, everything! Thanks again! 🥬

Great video! I’m new to this.How long does one butter lettuce keep regrowing leaves after you plant it? Does lettuce give seeds to plant at any point?
@57Vlada
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tracy. After regrowing, lettuce will produce for another 2-3 weeks after which it will flower and produce seeds.

This is my first year with a raised bed. I built it w my husband & daughter. It’s deeper (14in I think). In yrs past, I have tried to grow certain vegetables in the ground; hwr, we have a family or two of rabbits that seem to enjoy living in my azalea bushes. Needless to say they love greens. LOL. The raised bed, just as with my in-ground garden, get full all day sunlight. Should I be shading the raised bed at any part of the summer? There are two absolutely gorgeous butter lettuce heads growing along with some arugula. The spinach hasn’t come up yet but I’m hopeful. This is farther than I’ve ever gotten growing greens. Any advice? Thank you. Btw, I’ll be adding store bought heads of butter lettuce too.
@57Vlada

Thank you for reaching out Sammi-Jo - butter lettuce prefers cooler weather so if you are attempting to grow it during the summer I would suggest shading the area. Keep in mind, lettuce is kind of 'spring' crop so there is a very good chance your lettuce may not do well even if shaded...I hope you will keep us posted. I would like to know how it all turns out...All the best, Vlada

@@57Vlada A few nights ago I made salad with almost all the ingredients coming out of my garden, esp the lettuce & arugula! I think you're right about the shading. We've had a lot of rain & overcast days for the last 2+mos. Summers here are in the 90-100+ degree temps & more often than not super humid. If the buttercrunch lettuce starts to suffer, I'll pick up the pvc piping & shade cloth. It's something I'll use season after season until it has to be replaced anyhow. I'm enjoying the current growing season. My garden is taking off fairly well (that is if we can avoid the hailstorms - I lost the top of an indeterminate tomato few days ago. I'm hoping one of the high in the plant suckers I didn't get around to pruning before the storm will take over as the top. 🤞🏼🤞🏼). That being said, I am looking forward to cool-weather planting... well, as cool as cool weather gets here. Our winters mild compared to most parts of the country. Then of course there's hurricane season. That's when we have a tough time getting rid of water. It's a shame I'm not able to store it, but I am thankful for the rain barrels I do have. Have a wonderful day & thank you so much for the information. Much appreciated.

@@57Vlada I have a 50% shade cloth. I’ve had the current crown growing for more than two months. It has filled out so well. Once it tried to bolt; hwr, this was before the sun cloth. I’ll be trying to add more heads now. Btw this, kale, arugula, fresh cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, oregano, rosemary, thyme, & other tomato varieties, I’ve made some amazing salads, as well as dressings. More veggies are coming off in the garden every day.

Put it initially inside on a very bright place. Also, I would suggest to keep it inside if you are regrowing it during a summer time. Lettuce likes spring which is cool sun, so if you are doing this in summer I would suggest to keep in in a bright shady area.
