My sister canned blueberry jam last year. I baked some of hers _into_ my biscuits. It started me down a whole road of baking fruit preserves into my biscuits rather than spreading them on top afterward. What I like about it is some of it bubbles out and caramelizes and gives it a new taste and texture. I almost never make them plain any longer!

@@jadadpowers3098 prepare as usual, but just before before cutting them out, spread the preserves in a layer on top of the uncut dough (you may have to loosen the preserves by mixing in some lemon juice if too thick to spread easily). About 30 yrs. ago my wife's friends invited us (+ 3 kids🙂) to come and pick as many blueberries as we could free of charge near the end of season. Several long rows of giant bushes and literally every kitchen pan and container available we accepted. It was good fun and exciting for me as I had never seen such large cultivated plants, only ankle high wild plants where we actually had to allow bears their take from the car. In this case it was the farmer/rancher's horse as their house was a rental on his land. There were four horses as I recall,a mare and her grown foal, and two males. They were quite nice and tame and shared the bounty with us. I am a bit wary around horses especially larger males as I was once thrown/stripped off a horse spooked by a dog running through the bushes and brambles. I got hurt. And I used to help a friend care for his family horses/stalls and one very large male showed you who was boss and I refused to be in his proximity. Same here as the very large male kept seeking me out and pushed me away from picking and lightly biting me. It was funny to everyone including me. They had to remove him from the area just in case he became too aggressive. I felt out of place then as it was his home and I was intruding. But,we did fill every container to the brim and ate all the while picking.👍 🙂✌️❤

Four years back I picked 17 gallons of blueberries from 4 bushes. The next year 12, then 8. This year only 5. The berries are big, plump and sweet, but less each year. I’m sure it’s the heat and lack of rain. Neighbors who have farmed in this area their entire lives could not make a garden this year. Tomatoes, peas, corn just burned up. Most didn’t make any blueberries but say they have plenty of figs and muscadines. You all are truly blessed. Blueberry jam looks amazing and I’m making that chocolate blueberry candy.

So many have lost everything they own and then the ultimate bc lives have been lost. I have been praying since I first heard about it. Here in north Louisiana we are in a drought. We are thankful for each and every little drop of rain we have gotten. I just want to say that we love each and every one of you in the Appalachia region and our thoughts and prayers are with you all. My favorite topping and my favorite muffin is blueberry. Just wish I had my own bushes so that I could reap the rewards on a much more personal level. Until then I will live vicariously through you girls. Thanks for sharing and God bless you all.

My wife and I made some blueberry preserves on year and it was delicious. One batch was a little runny so we put it in the fridge and use it for topping on French Toast. Larrapin'! Our favorite preserves is strawberry-rhubarb. Gail doesn't like rhubarb because of the slimy texture. However, she loves the flavor of that in jelly. She overcame the texture issue by cooking 2 cups of diced rhubarb with one cup of sugar in a separate pan till it's soft. She then puts that into a food processor and liquefies it. The recipe calls for five cups of fruit, three cups strawberries and two of rhubarb. Deduct the 1cup of sugar from the total batch's 7 cups. Our granddaughter went to Kindergarten with a peanut butter sandwich and it didn't have (grandma Gail's) Gigi's jelly on it. She took one bite and put it back in her lunchbox. That little stinker has good taste and high standards. Memories of great family time are the dearest to our hearts as we get older. Love to you guys.

Dry but enough sugar to blend well. My grandma use to make jelly out of choke cherries too. A blueberry sized sour berry. I use to love it. Then the usual apple, Apricot, peach items. Apricot was difficult as it was difficult to have it get through spring without a freeze. Wish I was there to taste test for you! 😁😁 I'd do a very good job! Love picking berries so much, but these days with my bad legs and feet I just can't do it anymore. Our local wild berry is called a Saskatoon, it's something like a blueberry but sweeter and more tart at the same time. I used to go out every evening, pick a yogurt container full, come home and make open face tarts. My husband and kids would eat the whole batch by next evening, so I'd go out and do it again.
