As no talent for drawing, I bought coloring books to use the pictures for embroidering designs on jeans back in the day. Today's coloring books no longer have simple drawings to trace onto fabric anymore but we have the internet and printers and enlarging at UPS shops.😁 (But I miss the old way.)

Ok, I was going to sew today, but instead I'll take my buckets and tote full of scraps, dump them on my bed and see how well I can organize. Then I'll need to buy some dollar store color books since my granddaughter's made great use of what I had here. The granddaughters are 17, 15 and 14 now; they won't miss them 🤣. Yup, I gotta start on this room somewhere and so far, this video has been my best inspiration. Thanks!!!!

Coloring books! Great idea given the thin but stable texture, the tearability and the cost. I’d tell my grandkid, “Let’s hit the dollar store for two coloring books. You use yours for crayon art and I’ll use mine for quilting art.” No stealing, no tears. Also, I like to find a picture with a palette I love. Then I pull fabric in those colors. If you really stick to the palette, colors in your quilt will look great together.

The Snarky Engineer strikes again! The helpful vocabulary moment and cheering you for only five uhms. It was the dark humour that really resonated, though, and caused giggles. LOL To save your grandchildren such trauma, or in case there are no extra colouring books laying about, phone books are another source of easily torn paper. I loved this block idea with the consistent colour in the center. The layouts you showed were great and helpful. There's also a chevron design. You and your Engineer are a great team and produced another inspiring video! Thanks! Donna

I know about string quilts and how they go together. What was new to me is how tight you made your stitch length to keep it all together. That's likely what makes it so easy to remove the paper foundation. I intend to make a quilt like this but want to use an old and very thin sheet that I can't do anything else with and it will stay in the quilt. Thanks for the ideas! You obviously are a very experienced quilter! So nice not to feel like the channel is run by someone who learned to sew last week!

I'm working on string blocks as an ongoing project. Every so often I work on a few. I'm using Grunge in black for my center strip, and I put a dab of glue from my school glue stick on each end to anchor that first strip - I find it's easier to get started on each block that way.
