If changing water hasn’t proved helpful, try not changing it. See if a period of stability is what they are after. Also, make sure they are getting enough protein 👍🏻

just came across your channel and appreciate how often you reply to questions in comments. Subscribed. Im a beginner to shrimp keeping in the uk and currently waiting for my first tank to start cycling. However, i find keepers in forums/youtube make it so hard for a beginner. SO many mixed opinions when i've asked about trouble im facing. I feel i can trust your opinion on this question i have right now - im wanting to keep maybe 8 shrimp in a 2.5 gallon bowl (rather small, i know). Do you recommend cycling before adding shrimp, or would a fish in cycle be okay in my case due to the very small bioload? i could be wrong but i feel benefical bacteria will be able to take care of small amounts of bioload.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to comment and subscribing. Welcome aboard! For some reason there are so many people who want to make out keeping Red Cherry Shrimp is some sort of mystical activity that only the enlightened can master. Your new tank sounds perfect for a small group of shrimp. So you do need to cycle a new aquarium, however, the bio load of 8 to 10 shrimp is so low, just adding a few live plants from an existing aquarium can bring in enough beneficial bacteria to get you started. Would love to hear how your shrimp keeping journey gets on. 🤞🏻

I'm new to the Hobbie and concerned I'll have too many shrimp in my 10gal tank. I setup a clear plastic toat for culls. The tank is about 3 months old starting with 4 fire Reds. If I had to guess I now have hundreds. I don't see and Berried shrimp due to their color but I have babies from 1 day old up. Looks like 3 generations. I don't want to sell shrimp. Any recommendations on overpopulation? Is there such a thing.
@FishKeepingAnswers
Жыл бұрын
Typically shrimp will balance their own population based on how much you feed them. We keep 600 or more in our 6 gallon breeding tanks. Equally, if I only ever drop 1 algae water in a month, the population would drop to meet the amount of food available. As far as what to do with your extra shrimp, you could approach your local store and see if they will swap a bag full of shrimp for what ever it is you need. A tub of food or a couple of plants maybe. 👍🏻

Hallo Richard, My name is Patrick from the Netherlands. I've been a hobbyist for a couple of years and I started selling my shrimp since about 6 months. My questuon to you is... How do you keep the sellable numbers up so you can keep on selling? How many tanks do you have with the different colours? And how do you keep your collonies going? Do you buy new starter collonies or do you only use your own shrimp? I can sell for a while but then have to stop so they can breed new stock. I hope you find the time to answer me or even do a video about this. Lots of luck with your business and your channel. Kind regards Patrick

Hi Patrick, thanks for taking the time to comment. So when we first started breeding shrimp to sell we had the problem that we would build up a colony, sell all the best ones, then when we were down to about 50 or so shrimp, have to wait several months for the colony to rebuild itself. The solution was as follows. We let an individual colony reach 600 to 800 shrimp, then remove the best looking 100 shrimp and place them in to a new tub to start the next colony. We could then sell to remaining 500 to 700 shrimp. We haven’t bought any new stock for many, many months. We usually have 3 colonies of each colour on the go at any one time. Hope that helps. If not, just come back to me 👍🏻 Richard.

I have keep neocaridina shrimp for years, they have always reproduced well. For the last 6 months, I don't have a single baby in any aquarium. How to make them reproduce? There are no fish in the aquariums, there are sponge filters in each one, I feed them various things...
@dylanhughes5944
8 ай бұрын
Same, except it's been 2-3 months. They reached 300+ in a 15 gal and then stopped. They get plenty of food. Must be an oversaturation of their hormones in the water. More water changes must be needed. Stable is good, but with so much shrimp the hormone saturation must make it impossible for males to find the correct female to mate with. This explains the females always dropping their eggs now. They must not have been properly fertilized due to excess hormones everywhere
