I read the book. Fascinating. One thing not covered that bears on human over eating is speed. I'm beginning to think that animals look they look like they're hurrying, but are not, eating enough to satisfy themselves without gorging. If we would not only slow down, but eat smaller mouthfuls, we would experience the 5 satieties sooner.

Five hungers: protein, fat, carbs, calcium, and salt. Wow. So, what's missing in processed food is protein. Why the heck are food companies not grokking this and creating protein-richer snack foods? I can imagine limitless variations on pemmican, or jerky. Those ARE native population "processed foods!!" A practical takeaway from all of this is that when away from home, pack at least some satiating protein -- jerky, peanuts, cheese, etc. -- and fiber...apple, orange, cherry tomatoes, etc. All tailored to your needs.
