Nha Trang is beautiful and has all levels of affordability. A few popular places besides what you show here are, the Ponagar Cham towers, the main cathedral, and the stack boulders (Hon Chong). These are close to each other; however, I do not see many Westerners there but mainly Vietnamese and Chinese tourists in the recent years. Not sure why.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Vietnamese is an extremely difficult language as almost none of the words sound as they're spelled. I remember some comedian made a joke before about how Nguyen sounds NOTHING like what it's spelled, and there was a Cambodian kid in my class who swore thar Khmer is pronounced Ka Mai, but I've NEVER heard any Cambodian pronounce it that way. And you can't expect people to know about every language. Vietnamese isn't a mainstream language.
@ayngelina
Жыл бұрын
No and I think people are pretty kind about it. Vietnamese know its a tough language so in most situations any effort means people know you care at least to try. But it's one of the hardest for sure. I actually just realized the way to drag on the word for "thank you" means "shut up" and can understand why people in rural areas giggled when I said it.

I just checked my 2008 USSN Mercy schedule online to see where I was during my time in Vietnam during the navy and this was the exact area… not sure since it’s been 15 years ago, exactly the same time frame as yourself. I am not currently in Vietnam, but hoping to visit and stay at least for a year; of course knowing that I need to do border runs every 3 months which will make you explore regardless.

Very cool! I think 90 day border runs keep things interesting although the 30 days really made our trip complicated but hey then we wouldn’t have gone to Thailand

It's GREAT that a Western person like you enjoying seeing locals enjoy their vacation spot. I've seen too many videos of us Westerners making the remark "there's a lot of Vietnamese here" as if it's something that should not be. It's their country, why wouldn't they enjoy it. The other thing I think many people that are not familiar with VN will ask is how come the beach is so empty. I lived & worked in VN for 9+ years and really like their approach. VN locals get up REALLY early to go to the beach, around 5am or so. They exercise, swim until around 6:30am then they go home, clean up, have breakfast then go to school or work. That leaves the beach near empty in mid AM noon and early PM for us sun worshiping tourists to enjoy the blazing hot sun. By 4:30pm, after they get out of school and work, the VN locals will come to the beach to exercise, play and socialize then by 6pm they go home to eat dinner as a family or go out to their many many restaurants. It's a great and healthy life style. Most importantly, large beach cities like Nha Trang, Da Nang, Ha Long City, they have completely open public access beaches for everyone, young and old rich and poor, to enjoy. They don't zone it off exclusively for expensive hotels/resorts where only rich foreign guests can enjoy and deprive their people of their own lovely beaches. Some time, capitalism can and should take a backseat to a more social/communal philosophy.
@ayngelina
Жыл бұрын
I think the difference is I went to Vietnam to experience the country not hang out with other foreigners on the beach while the only locals I meet are people serving me. But I think that travelers change with age and experience. When I first came here in 2008 I thought meeting people from Europe and Australia was cool…but now im not interested. Instead I’m thrilled that so many Vietnamese speak English so we can interact because my Vietnamese is terrible 🤣 but I love it when kids approach me to talk and practice or people give me advice. Vietnamese people are so hospitable and really treat foreigners so well.

@kazehikaru24
Жыл бұрын
@@ayngelina you could find coconut water or sugarcane juice in nearly any stall in many streets, but stalls on the roads near the beach will cost you more, so it's best to always ask for the price first if you're craving a tropical drink at the beach. For nem nướng, I used to eat at nem Vũ Thành An (at 15 Lê Lợi Street) -- food quality is still fine for my taste, but service quality is not as great as I experienced. Nem bà Sáu (at 2 Tô Vĩnh Diện Street) is better imo (2 only disadvantages are the shop is small and they only open from 1pm in the afternoon so if anyone wants nem nướng as brunch, they'll have to wait). At bà Sáu's shop, you could have the food be rolled by yourself or the owner could roll them for you and all you need to do is eating the rolled dish; while at Vũ Thành An, you will need to roll the food by yourself. Both shops have their own style and are worth to give a try.

Fisrt of all, it is jellyfish, not yelly fish. Your name looks like a Vietnamese name, but you don't know nothing about jellyfish, or maybe other seafood in Vietnam either. Do not expose your ignorance by being judgmental about the origin of something that you do not have a clue what it is!
