I dont know if this is to prevent them from developing binge eating disorder as a replacement ed because that commonly happens. Also gaining weight too fast can typically cause relapses (for me especially) but it is still an awful way of doing it. they should have explained this to them and still have gave them the option to eat withoiut labelling it as too much
@katieb8840

Isabella, please stop spreading untruths It's not common to developing BED in recovery from Restrictive eating disorder (it exactly the opposite it's pretty unlikely) simply by eating large amounts of food. You can have BED and anorexia but anorexia and recovery from it isn't the trigger of BED. Like you can have flu and broken ankle but one did not let to the other. Have a nice day and wish you luck.

Binge eating disorder exists.. many people switch from eating too little to too much when ‘recovering’,
@Fiothiel
3 жыл бұрын
@@adoreyou7449 Definitely, but at the same time the goal is to be able to eat everything (in moderation). So having a scone with a hot chocolate and marshmallows sometimes shouldn't be wrong. I guess I can sort of understand why if you're on a strict program, but using terms as "too much" sounds dangerous. I would've become more scared of some things rather than opening up to eating more varied if my treatment team told me that making a certain (normal and healthy!) choice at one occasion is wrong and "too much".

I think the "too much" thing may come from caution towards "refeeding syndrome" which can occur "when food is introduced too quickly after a period of malnourishment. Shifts in electrolyte levels can cause serious complications, including seizures, heart failure, and comas. In some cases, refeeding syndrome can be fatal. People who are malnourished are at risk." So they were probably being cautious of that.

God I find it ridiculous that inpatient units say there is 'too much'! I guess they are trying to help those with other eating disorders too where that may be an issue but you would think they would have different rules for those recovering from a restrictive eating disorder! One of my units was good when we were out on snacks etc in that there was only a minimum, but everyone there had anorexia lol so :/ but another unit literally didn't let you have anything extra at all and if you were going out for a restaurant meal they reduced all your other meals to 'make up for it' which is ridiculous and is so disordered cos that's not what 'normal' people do!!!

When you're feeding your body, it can have whatever it truly wants even if that's 5 slices of cake in one sitting. By implementing that a food is 'too much' is exacerbating the fear of the food and planting that too much food is bad. All the years of starvation, your body will be HUNGRY (as it thinks it's still in starvation mode) and it doesn't need more rules. I despise meal plans like these. EAT WHAT YOU WANT, WHEN YOU WANT AND IN THE QUANTITY YOU WANT. 'There's no too much food in recovery but there is too little food'

This was so interesting to watch. I spent 10 months on an Eating Disorder unit in England. I went through pretty much all of the meal plans in that time. It's so strange how different they are depending on the unit you go to. I would have thought they'd be similar, but our meal plans were so different to your one. We weren't allowed toast. Our breakfasts were 'bulked up' with 2 or 3 types of fruit and then juice. Our snacks were also much more calorie dense. Only the refeeding and maintenance plans had only fruit for snacks. Good luck with your recovery! :) x

And, that's the pivotal moment... whether to eat the banoffee pie or not. You know and to a certain extent, believe your intuitive thoughts but the brain can make so many harsh judgements. And, the only way to destroy the guilt, overthinking, shame etc, is to keep eating. Keep practising opposite actions. It is honestly so freeing. Omg I remember similar hospital meal plans. However with LOTS more food than this!!! So glad those days are behind me and I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want!!! (not less than the meal plan but just following my natural hunger)!! Omg, those cafe rules were RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! (how disordered were the rules)???? They were restricting you. I remember being told how to portion meals and people were told to take stuff back off their plates if they were considered to have put too much on. 🙈🙈🙈 Well done for ignoring the meal plan and going with your own hunger and instincts!!! ❤️ As you said, at the time you go into hospital those meal plans seem HUGE but then when you get home and back to normal life you realise how actually they weren't so huge after all..... I might try and follow one of my old meal plans for a day out of curiosity to see how it compares to what I eat now!!! Lol, I CERTAINLY use more condiments than I was allowed in hospital, one sachet of salt and pepper and one sachet of ketchup, vinegar and salad cream!! (how rubbish)!!! So glad you have moved on from your hospital days. Keep going with your recovery..... Best wishes sweetie x

From my own experience: They usually section you until you are compliant. In some extreme cases they will sedate you or offer medications for anxiety. You are locked down in your room or on the ward and are usually started up on 24/7 NG feeds then when you’re more willing they combine tube feeds with solid foods and then eventually transfer you onto full food/drink meal plan. It’s not a really great path to go down tbh. It was torture. I was held in a psych ward for 3 weeks with a tube up my nose and no visitors or fresh air. Not recommended.

Could you send me your meal suggestions? I need help, because I’m recovering from anorexia ❤️

I did an outpatient program. You had to weigh and measure and just pick from food lists. You also had to put anything over the weight back. The whole thing was so disordered and stupid. Most people never finished and the counselors would just say "Can you take one more bite? How is that setting an example for a healthy relationship with food and also being a grown up?

to be honest i wish we had more too! we did however do NO movement at one point we weren't even allowed to walk 50m and had to get a wheel chair. i think the lack of food actually slowed my recovery as when i went all in i ate over double this at the start! Xxx
