How can that be fair to sellers, or even legal - it's state/local money - the seller gains no revenue from taxes, but must pay ebay on it? Plus sales taxes are higher in some states. 4 states have no state or local taxes; while 5 states charge sales tax over 9% (+ local taxes). Sounds greedy to me. For us sellers living closer to the bone, it's stressful to have no surety as to when $ comes into our accts; and yet we must still ship out.

So this just happened, and I wanted others to be aware. Someone requested a return for a pair of pants, and as soon as they requested it, eBay put a hold on $20 (what the refund would be). However, the buyer has until the end of the month to ship the pants, so that $20 is just in limbo until I get them back. Thank you RalliRoots as well as all the other commenters on here. I appreciate the input from all the various perspectives. I have been a casual eBay seller, mostly selling stuff around my home when I wanted to get rid of stuff or make a few extra bucks. I have really liked having that PayPal account because I strongly prefer to keep the money I make via online sales separate from my personal checking that I pay all my bills out of. With all the mistakes eBay makes, there is no way in hell I am giving them access to my personal checking account that is my lifeblood to my daily existence. Therefore, I feel like my only options are to either open a second checking account (so I can still keep my online sales money separate) which I would do with the money in my PayPal account, or seek out some other platform to sell my items on. One of the things I liked about eBay is their enormous worldwide reach. On the other hand, though, maybe my items will get more visibility on a smaller platform with less competition. I was planning to start listing a ton of stuff on ebay this evening but now I need to re-think this and do some more research into other platforms. In theory, though, it does make sense from a business perspective, for eBay to make this change and streamline operations and handle everything in house. But as usual, they have used this opportunity to modernize their operations to screw their sellers, when they *could have* chosen to be slightly less greedy and showed their sellers some appreciation by actually saving them a little money. On a positive note, I did learn from others commenters here about the Capital One 360 checking, which is actually looking pretty good to me right now. In fact, it looks a LOT better than the personal checking I currently have with Chase Bank, which is screwing me with a $20 monthly fee. So I may just switch my personal checking over to a 360 checking also. So many thanks to the commenters who shared the info about this banking option!

My biggest concern will be shady buyers manipulating the return options to get an automatic label for return when maybe we wouldn't be accepting a return for that particular item. The return system needs an update to address this issue. Savvy buyers know they can just select "item not as described" to get a guaranteed return label. Then we receive a return and have no choice but to refund...? This video was excellent. Thanks so much for the breakdown!

Thanks Ryan for suggesting to double check fees that are being charged. When I first switched over I was keeping an eye on fees at that time to make sure that my math and Ebay math were the same. However since your posting of this video I went back and checked and sure enough along about week three I was seeing amounts that didn’t match. What was happening is that Ebay was including the sales tax that “they” collected, to come up with the final value fee. I had read that yes this is a practice of Ebay however when I spoke with an Ebay representative he told me that this shouldn’t be happening. At this time a work order has been submitted for my invoice to be reviewed.

We have been in Managed Payments for a month now.. The biggest surprise so far was paying our monthly invoice. Previously the invoice was paid out of PayPal at the end of the month. We changed that to our business bank account using the debit card number vs. the bank account number. We found out on August 31st ebay was not automatically withdrawing the payment. We need to manually make the payment in the month the change took place. Automatic payments should resume the following month. Also another surprise. Automatic payment dates can vary by using a debit, credit card or a bank account number. Bank accounts come out on the 30th or 15 days from invoice. Debit or credit cards come out on the 22nd or 7 days later. Depending on when your invoice closes figure 7 days or 15 days later for withdrawals. Another surprise. There is activity between ebay and some credit card companies on Saturday and Sunday. We chose daily payouts but find Tuesday as the big payout day. From Thursday though Monday there seems to be a big backup of processing. It just feels like processing slows down on Thursday pushing more (non) activity into the weekend and finally getting back to normal later on Monday. Depending on what services you use promotions, FedEx, insertion fees, etc. You may still have a hefty invoice. Our average invoice was around $2200. After MP our first full month invoice will be at least $1700. A big chunk is FedEx.

Thank you for this video. Here in the Netherlands we still do not have this but i was wondered how this works. I first thought that all seperate payments were paid seperate to you account which could be really expensive as you pay for every transaction on your business account. But if it is on a daily or weekly basis I do not bother. I just transfer every few weeks my paypal balance to my business account, i do not need the cashflow to keep running my business, so i think i will simply do it on a weekly basis, because that is cheaper. It's a good thing you get your fees of the payment back with a return. Offcourse not the 30 cent, you always lost that with paypal, every bank charges that...

Thank you for explaining things. We switched and We do miss pay pal. I hate change if things are good. And for us PayPal was good. We are learning that we need to keep a close eye on things. We are watching eBay like a hawk. Kurt has been printing out payout information and checking it daily. He has already found several inconsistencies. But after 10 years of selling on eBay you just try to make the best of it. I hope another resale site comes along and just steals the show. We want to be the first to sign up. As much as we appreciate eBay there are just too many issues that never get resolved. Like offers. How is it that someone can make an offer and once accepted the seller has to wait to get paid. If you make an offer on any other site if accepted the money is immediately deducted from the buyers payment source. And that is how offers should be handled. If eBay has programmers than why are sellers still chasing money on offer sales. And that’s just one example of a simple thing that should be fixed. And it’s not good that we are deducted fees before ever getting paid for our sales. Just another thing that I know could be handled better. Always room for improvement. We strive to do better all the time, and fail miserably. But we are not quitters. Going to do all we can to be better at this thing called life. I don’t know if you know this about me but I have a severe form of arthritis. It’s a rare extremely disabling arthritis. Runs in my family. But I try to do something every. I’m blessed to have a wonderful husband who lets me wrap up things to ship when I have a good day and he understands on bad days when I can’t help at all. Resale is fun. I’m enjoying seeing my husband go into it full time after nearly 30 years as an electrician. It’s not easy to learn new ways to work at his age. And not only is he doing a really good job he’s having fun being a reseller. I hope y’all have a fantastic day and make lots of sales. And thanks again for always helping us to understand the ways of EBay. God bless! Leslye

Their support staff have cost me soo much $$$ by giving me incorrect information on multiple occasions so I don’t trust them with my money. I too use my credit card to pay eBay fees and I get cash back from doing so so I’ll be trying to find out how to continue doing that as I get hundreds back per year. I dislike the returns policy where eBay will automatically refund/put a hold on the money until it’s resolved. I know eventually I’ll have to switch over but for now I’m not switching until I have to. Have a great day.

I sent him a stern letter telling him I would send him to collections and make it my life's mission to hunt him down until he returned my stuff. I sent him an invoice through Paypal as a demand to pay for what he kept using the email he provided on the transaction receipt. Then one day out of nowhere he sent my back.

Thanks for the great video, Ryan. others have mentioned but the 12.35% IS charged on sales tax. Paypal does/did this too. So instead of 2.9% on sales tax its now 12.35% on that sales tax cost. I'm just getting moved over to this so dont have any sales on it yet but I'm not convinced its going to be cheaper. May be better for one system vice two and of course way better for Ebay but have my doubts its gonna be cheaper.
