Sorry to be a geek, sorry but do you know if this is a fan bootleg or a personal recording just for the band? I know it's nothing but I love silly details like that 😁🙌✌️
@ScottishTeeVee
8 ай бұрын
@@glenndouglas8822 It is a fan / bootlegger recording. Shot on a camcorder with the full intentions of selling copies, not usual in 1985, as there were already many others doing the same in the UK and other countries. Just pick up old mid 80s editions of NME, Sounds, Record Collector etc and look at the small ads in the back pages, you will see people selling copies of videos like this.

“ Lips like Sugar “ is still one of my favorites from them. Timeless classic , from a bygone era that was just epic to live through . Those of us who are of age where we lived this time-frame with bands like Echo , The Cult , The Clash & countless others & got to see these guys play live enjoyed times the likes we probably will never see again.

A friend won free tickets on the radio in NYC. He gave his name and was told to pick up the tickets at the box office. He called me and asked if I wanted to go and I jumped at the chance. He said he'd pick me up in his car and drive us into the city (We lived in the NYC suburbs). As he was leaving his house he got a phone call. It was the DJ saying the gig was cancelled. If my friend missed that call, we would have driven all the way into the city, only to be told at the box office the show was cancelled.

I was there. It had rained all day and maybe all the day before it just about stopped when they came on. There was a mistyness in the damp air that suited them perfectly. Everyone was relieved at the rain stopping. It’s impossible to describe but the atmosphere was magical and they were perfect for it. I think McCulloch later said they weren’t good but that’s not how it felt to us in the audience.

I enjoyed reading your comment. Brought back memories. It was a dismal weekend of weather. We blagged our way passed the gate ticket guy. Just let us in. We’d camped our little tent outside the site and upon returning on Saturday night and found it collapsed flat in a pool of water. Climbing into binliners inside sodden sleeping bags with our food floating around us. Just miserable. Went home Sunday morning and missed the show.

The Bunnymen at their peak IMHO. Saw them a year or two before this in a tiny club in Dublin (McGonagle's) that held only a couple of hundred people. What a show! Thanks for the times and titles and for posting. They did some great covers as well ("She's Cracked" - The Modern Lovers, "Friction" - Television, "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" - Bob Dylan probably via Them, "Paint It Black" - The Rolling Stones, and "The End" & "Soul Kitchen" by The Doors). I think I heard a smattering of "Light My Fire" in one o the songs as well, which goes to show you why Echo were such a good choice to record "People Are Strange" for "The Lost Boys" OST.
