Man, I’ve been watching your videos for years and they’re always great! You always manage to make incredible sounds along with those avante-garde type videos. I’ve always wondered what your signal chain is. Anything special or just straight from the synth to the audio interface?
@Jexus

@@MySilver5oh Thanks! Always straight from the synth to the audio interface. However, in this case there was some external FXing applied, just like in the Moog Sub-37 and Microfreak demos (basically I do it in all synths without any onboard FX).

A very interesting video. There seems to be a certain timbre to this synth that you can't escape. I will certainly have to play one myself before making a decision on it. It reminds me a bit of the Oberheim OB X8 in that way. There is always a certain sound that you can't get away from. I thought I didn't like that sound until I played the Oberheim recently. Without any effects it sounded amazing, but it always sounded like an Oberheim. My Minilogue XD can produce a huge variety of timbres, maybe I should buy a Prologue whilst I can still get one.

You should read Jexus's review of the Prologue, he really likes it. I already had one at the time he reviewed/released a video on it, but it was interesting reading someone WAY better at playing and programming synths articulate many of the things I like about it far better than I ever could haha

This one ( and the K3 vid) have a special place in my heart because I was lucky to cut my synth teeth on a Prophet 600- as a complete newbuh- just turning knobs/ falling in love. Hey, thanks for the reply! I’m probably going to pull the trigger on this one. By listening to your demos, it seems like this synth has a very wide range of capabilities and a tone that truly reminds me of ‘80’s music thru to today’s modern music.

Cool. Just remember & make sure you can sort of "tell apart" in your mind what the synth does and what the FX do - I am using subtle amounts of delay / reverb / chorusing / EQing in my Pro-800 demos so the synth may seem more versatile than it really is.
@MySilver5oh
8 ай бұрын
Oh, okay. Well, like you said “subtle amounts” and that’s fine for me. I’m guessing you do that (like anyone else would, probably), to enhance the synths sound, and not totally change it. Thanks again for taking the time to respond!

Ah, i suspect the word "unorganic" was added to your quote by the notorious behringer haters over at synthopia? If so apologies. I love my flawed but sweet sounding pro800.
@Jexus
8 ай бұрын
I found this bit: "The Pro-800 definitely sounds like a clone of Prophet-600, but does not sound 100% like the real Prophet-600. Simple structures sound pretty identical, but the further you go into the wacky territory, the more obvious the nuances become. The most striking difference is that the Prophet-600 is brighter, while the Pro-800 sounds a bit darker & more stable (unorganic) in comparison." This is indeed quoted from my website, but it just means that I find the Prophet-600 a bit more wonky / organic than Pro-800. This doesn't mean that Pro-800 sounds unorganic. It sounds much more organic than other contemporary synths. I thought my Pro 800 demos sounded pretty organic...
@christianthompson1473
8 ай бұрын
@@Jexus yes, i thought yr demos sounded organic also. To my ears the pro 800 sounds so good i accept all of the crankiness it comes with. But there again I don't ask too much of it... i just turn 3or 4 nobs and sit entranced by that luscious filtered throbbing pad sound, a perfect bed for anything i do. If i want some fancy programming next i turn on the pro 3, b2600 or the prophet 12. 😀

Lots of great sounds. But again, there's something about the bass sounds of this one that I really like. If I was to get one, it would be for that thick rubber bass tone, which makes me wonder how the Pro One might compare for that. Because, that might work even behtr-er for me, and be really even cheaper-er. Because at nearly 400, I think I might prefer to buy a second-hand Korg Arp Odyssey module, because I loved how that sounded on bass, I think with the overdriven third filter option, if I remember right.
@zap7759

Better off with a 2600 unless you want unison.
@compucorder64
8 ай бұрын
@@zap7759 Yes, I guess if it was purely for bass/monosynth, that's probably true. Though, it's nice to have the unison, and polyphony for when you want an extra polysynth voice. I do love how the 2600 sounds for bass though. It is kind of overlooked for the Model D, but pretty amazing sounding. And integrates with a modular.
@zap7759

@@compucorder64 Yeah I don't know, man. I use a Pro-1 and a Novation Bass Station II for analog stuff. Analog polys usually can't sound modern enough for me to be a general purpose instrument.
@compucorder64
8 ай бұрын
@@zap7759 that's true, simple and slow pads and strings are the other main things I'd probably use a Pro-800. And the 8-voices are handy for that. Whereas on Take 5, you can run out of voices. In theory, I should be covered for that, but my other main hybrid is a Novation Peak. And I like that so much doing either acidic/grungy distorted overdrived unison bassline stuff, kinda like your BSII, or poly wavetable/hybrid FM things mostly. If I got a Pro-1 or BSII that would let the Peak be the 8 voice Peak. Definitely a simple synth that is good for bass would free things up. Cos similarly, my Grandmother gets co-opted for bass. But that's a bit of a waste too, because it's more interesting as a semi-modular. Pro-1, Pro-800 would be good. But maybe ARP 2600 or MS-20 would add more variety.
@zap7759
8 ай бұрын
@@compucorder64It all depends on what want you want to do but I've had a few people come to me totally discouraged with hardware because they thought they needed analog because of the internet but it turned out couldn't sound how they wanted. Expensive mistake over and over. I use Nord Lead 4 and Waldorf Blofled. Also Emu Audity 2000 and Ensoniq Mirage.

I honestly would have bought like 4 of these or whatever but I kept posting about MPE support for years and Behringer would never respond no matter what. Behringer says "We Hear You" but they don't really. Now I feel like I'm the enemy and they hate me just for asking, or that I am some kind of annoyance who was plaguing their comment section asking for MPE. Behringer have something against MPE and I don't understand it. Maybe it's because the Pro-800 is gonna get fake market tiered against the UB-Xa by leaving out important features like basic MIDI support of MPE. Anyways I am not buying any new synth that does not support MPE because I rely on it for phrasing, I coded my own DAW based around it, I make microtonal music, etc. I need the MPE.
