Having to remove the mops is the deal breaker for me. For that kind of money I don't want to have to mess with the robot at all for daily cleanings. The dual mop and vacuum feature of the Roborock S7 MAXV is much more handy than the "nicer" design. I have mostly Tile with a small low pile area rug which makes this the clear winner for me. Would be nice to have a heated pad but not worth the trouble of removing the mop every time you want to just vacuum the rug.

Agreed, and being prettier is also objective - some people prefer the more techy look. The next revision of Roborock in China already has the mop drying, so will probably reach global market with the S8 Ultra dock. There is high possibility the next revision of the dock will be compatible with S7 MaxV. Also China got a version that connects directly to the sewage/fresh water pipes which means 0 maintenance for the water tanks.

Agreed! A heated pad would be soo nice!! I was reading the Roborock can scrub 3,000 strokes vs the OMNI doesn't. I think it's pretty cool the Roborock has a place for dirty bags and a light for low light situations. Everything is convenient, I just don't like the camera feature.

I just bought the Ecovac Deebot x1 Omni. What a great looking machine! I have 100% tile floors in a 2400 square foot single level home. I also have a cat and sled dog that are shedding like crazy right now. I have numerous machine washable, low pile area rugs (Ruggable) and the robot vacuums them really well. I did not find adding the cleaning pads when I wanted to mop a problem at all. I don’t mop every room all that often anyway. But what I did notice that when mopping, some of my rugs were in the way of the Deebot’s approach to the room I wanted mopped. So I had to lift or fold them out of the way to save battery life and time. All in all … I love this machine so far. It really helped me save time and energy when cleaning the house. And the mapping and video functions are a lot of fun.

As a mom and a nanny who frequently has sticky residue of something on the floor, I am really interested in the scrubbing power of the omni. Another review added jam to the floor, and the Roborock spread stickiness all over the floor, defeating the purpose. I like the vacuuming of the Roborock, mainly because the bristles of the omni get tangled.

Great review, but the floor cleaning performance section was lacking in real-world cleaning scenarios. Almost nobody sends a robot out to clean up big, wet messes. Real-world is dried on shoe prints, drops of liquid on the kitchen floor that have dried up, etc. Most robots do a fair job of vacuuming, it's the mopping where they are lacking.
@clarencethomasisthegoat

Exactly, and it's actually not it's intended use. The back portion is the mopping, front for vacuum. When you send it to clean a liquid spill it will vacuum some of the liquid into it's dry dirt bin.. not good

Great review however, from someone who has one of these, take note that the mopping feature is great if you only have one floor to do. Since the robot goes back to its station to clean the mop and then continue its session (I think it does this after 15min) you will not be able to do that on another floor unless you have another station. So basically you have to bring the robot back to the floor where you have the station for it to clean the mops. Then you have to get the robot to exit the station and bring it back to the floor it was on and resume cleaning. Only problem is it wont remember where it was so it will do areas it already did. It’s not like when the there is a low battery and it goes to charge and then resume where it left off. Something to consider.

We have two 'basic' vacs, if one floor seems to be getting behind, due to pets being up/down stairs more, or just 'life' we grab the 2nd one and put in on that floor. When it finishes, it gets confused and runs out of power, or stops. When I get home I take it back to it's base station (sometimes it takes 30secs to a min to 'beep' as it's fully flat) but otherwise, it's easier enough to do. (Fully disclosure, sometimes it 'hies' under the bed or curtains etc, but still quicker than me doing it myself!)

Your video was a big help in making my decision. I like your straightforward comparison and your highlighting of important functions. I settled on the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra since my home is largely wooden floors. Coming from a 3-year old Roborock S6, the transition was very easy, especially with the mapping functions. Removing and putting on the spinning pads for the Ecovacs wasn't a deal breaker for me. I've heard from several reviewers that a combined vac/mopping session may cause a shortage in the motor, and those functions should be done in separate jobs. I don't know if this is a real concern. I'm rinsing out the dirty water tank after I've completed mopping for the day. This should avoid the growth of foul odors. Other people are also adding a few drops of disinfectant in the dirty water container after rinsing it. Seems like a good idea, too. After using it for a week, I think I made the right decision. Reviewers like you are so helpful in showing other brands and making comparisons. With quite a few great versions on the market now, it all comes down to your own needs and your budget. Thank you for making the choices and trade-offs so clear!

Thankfully avoidance can be upgraded via software, so the X1 could potentially improve over time. Already received 2 upgrades to my Roborock S7 MaxV software that improved object avoidance since I bought it. However the mopping cannot be fixed with software... so yeah.

Totally agree she couldnt have tested for long. Ecovacs app is bad, object dectection is bad and mop performance is terrible. I started with the X1 and switched the the Roborock. Carpet cleaning may be vetter on the X1 but it doesn't matter cause its worse in every other way.

Really good video (also watched the full length reviews a month ago before deciding on S7 MaxV), but the conclusion is 100% opposite of what I gathered from it. The clear winner should be the Roborock S7 MaxV if only for the fact it is an automatic robot vacuum while X1 requires manual work each time. The most important thing that is not mentioned in this video is that the top cover of the Omni X1 is not attached so it will fall off when you try to remove the pads unless you hold it. Pros S7 MaxV Ultra: * Cheaper * Can clean carpets and floors without user intervention * Dock is lower height so it occupies less vertical space and could fit under a desk or shelf where the X1 would not fit * Reusable (washable) bag will be available for the Ultra dock that will last 6-12 months as an alternative to the single use bags that both robots can use * Possibility to clean all carpets before the mop even gets a single drop of water on it, so you could vacuum high pile carpets before the robot starts with vacuuming + mopping hard floors (using Routines can be done both as manual start with 1 button click or scheduled) (True 0 user interaction cleaning) Cons S7 MaxV Ultra: * No hot air in the dock to dry the pad ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pros Omni X1: * Prettier (objective if you do not like the "techy look") * Hot air to dry mop Cons Omni X1: * Have to remove pads to vacuum carpets. So if you got 3 rooms and the middle one got carpet, you have to manually carry the X1 to mop last room... and at some point remove the mop pads to vacuum the carpet in middle room so 2 user interactions in this simple scenario * Always listens to your conversations and analyzes what you say (no privacy) * Camera always points out even in the dock so high possibility of spying (no privacy) (There have recently been reports of security companies that have cameras in your house circulating nudes of their customers. Having a camera pointing at you all the time on a robot vac even when it does not clean is in same risk category) * Quite a bit taller dock - fits in less spots * The top is not attached when flipping the robot to remove the pads and since it's made of metal, risk that it creates a jack in a wooden or vinyl floor Also in the carpet clips, the X1 left big chunks of debris right where it passed, the S7 picked all up. There was no flour visible though for the X1 test so not sure if that was tested (not in the long video either). But based on this clip I would say a tie or win for S7 if flour was not tested for X1. Also the optimal way to clean with these robots is to run a cross-clean of each room, by then pretty much any of the robots will pick up 99% of the debris. The two full length videos have been some of the best robot reviews though and helped me make a decision so thank you.

The fact that Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra doesn't have an air dryer doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, it might not need it because the S7 lifts the moping pad while docked so it has room to dry and while charging is turned so the mop is outside of the dock, unlike the X1 that is always hidden deep inside the dock. The rotating mop pads of the X1 are thicker and can't lift up so needs the hot air to not smell.

If you have all hard floors and no rugs, the X1 may be fine. If you have a mix of carpet/rugs and hard floors, the Roborock will save you a lot of hassle. You're buying a robot to save as much hassle as possible. Having to install/uninstall the mopping pads really increases the amount of thinking/tasks that you have to do. I agree the X1 looks nicer, but it is also a lot bigger.

Nice review. It's nice to see a fresh face for robot vac/mop reviews. They say the new release in China has a feature that dries the Roborock mops. I am surprised you chose the OMNI but I understand why. I wouldn't like having to take out the mops on the OMNI and having to switch between vacuuming and mopping. I like the mop carpet lifting feature on the Roborock. Roborock scrubs the floor with 3,000 strokes compared to the OMNI . Roborock is supposedly better at scrubbing floors. Would you still choose the OMNI?

I watched another review on the two where they put jam on the floor, and the Roborock spread stickiness all over the floor, requiring a manual mopping after it was done. The Omni didn’t have that issue. Of course, if you live in a home where it is unlikely that something sticky will hit the floor, then that feature probably doesn’t matter.

The roborock's mopping pad is too poorly designed. Even if it vibrates or something, it cannot achieve the cleaning potential you get from the Omni's spinning brushes. Also that cleaning pad doesnt just get the carpets wet, it also wipes off all the dirt and stuff onto your carpets. Another important thing is that the Roborock's charging base has much smaller tanks so you will have to empty and add water more often especially for larger households
@MoonMage67
2 жыл бұрын
various testers disagree with your unfounded assumption and the fact the roborock can do it all without being touched makes it the only choice for a house with carpets. whats the point of having a combo robot if it cant do both at the same time? your problem with the roborock is that you have to refill its water slightly more often, but somehow you're ok with having to physically alter the eco every time you want to mop?
@Izaya_Orihara
2 жыл бұрын
@@MoonMage67 Incorrect. It is not an unfounded assumption. I have the S7 and the vibrating pad doesn't do much better than the iRobot Braava Jet 240's pad. If you think about it, taking off 2 mopping pads is way faster than refilling and dumping out water every 1-2 days unless you live in a tiny space. And you're leaving out the fact that the S7 is only suitable for carpets at 4 mm or lower. Most low-pile carpets are 0.25 inches which is 6.35 mm so it WILL and has been getting the carpet wet and dirty. I'd rather remove the mopping pads on my X1 Omni than having to walk on dirty wet carpets. Also, when you have it mop large areas and then it tries to go on carpet, the mopping pad drips. So even if my carpet was super low-pile at like 1 mm, it would still get wet. Not to mention the docking station doesn't dry the mopping pads. I have a Roomba S9+ in addition to my X1 Omni, so I just have that to vacuum my carpets.

It seems to me that with the Omni having to re-moisten the rotating pads back at the main station the pads would be dry by the time It got back to the far end of the house. Is this true in reality? Since the Roborock has the onboard reservoir it makes sense to me that the pads would be wet longer and therefore clean better.
