I asked him what pushed him to do the last 2 reps. He told me Arnold who was only 27 at the time told ed who was around 40) to get serious. Due to the cameras rolling, he got so pissed he did the last 2 squats out of pure anger lol.

Who ever did the squatting, knows how heavy this excercise is. Nothing compares, even deadlifts. I remember my first squatting. I took a looong nap after the training....;)
Squatting is a whole nother beast compared to other lifts. People go ham on bench and deadlifts but when you see someone go ham on squats... that person is dangerous.

I remember seeing this exact clip a decade ago when I first started lifting at 13 years old, before i ever even watched Pumping Iron. Nowadays, while squatting i still subconsciously try to match the intensity Ed had in this clip. Just finished a killer leg day and this clip popped up again in my recommended. From what I've read that he wrote back squats we're his main thigh exercise. In all his routines he lists back squats before front squats and does more sets if back squats. According to Joe Gold Armold would do squats until he turned blue.

I've seen guys at the gym who will spot their friends by practically lifting half the weight starting from around rep 1. The way Arnold spots Ed is perfect. He barely uses a few fingers to give him the little help he needs to finish the very last rep.

This is by far the most motivating thing to watch before squat day. For anyone who squats, we know and feel every one of those reps. I like how arnold says "let's serious" after 8 reps of 315 lbs. I know 315 squat isn't an incredible squat but for 10 or 11 reps its pretty darn good. That puts their 1 rep max at over 400 lbs

I mean this could've been like the 6th or 8th movement, and maybe set #45 of a #60 sets workout. Arnold also used a close stance bodybuilding squat that makes the quads work harder. The wider stance allows you to go heavier aka powerlifers, people should keep that in mind.

Before you bicth about the weight they used,remember : -They were in competion-prep.,steroids back then were not as strong as the shit today,they didnt eat 2 tons of rice a day (Arnold said they had 3 bodybuilding-friendly meals a day and a protein snack),bodybuilding is not about weight you lift,and they probably still stronger than you.

Are u fucking serious??? The drugs were wayyyy better back then. Back then, u only needed 5mg of dianabol to equal 50 today. There was no such thing as tren cough. And .... sorry woman is bitching... love u tho brother

It's almost 300 lbs. -- very impressive squats for REAL weightlifters/bodybuilders. The roiders working out do not count -- for ANYTHING. They're cheaters and criminals (using illegal drugs).
