Ed's in the country for Nova's Red Room at the Sydney Opera House, and before the show he opened up to Smallzy about the meaning behind 'Supermarket Flowers'
Supermarket Flowers is one of the only songs that made me feel emotional and I relate to Ed because my grandmother passed away not too long ago.

Supermarket Flowers is such an emotionally powerful song because everyone can relate to it. I've lost loved ones, and I still sometimes take my family for granted. It made me call home to my mom and really tell her how much I love & appreciate her.

Good on you - it's so nice to hear about people letting their family know how much they mean to them. I lost my Mum around 3 months ago, so the song is still painful to listen to, but knowing that its made you contact your mum brings me a bit of happiness. I'm sure she would've loved that call.

This song resonates with me on such a powerful and personal level. My mum died last year from cancer and the lyrics of Ed’s song connected with so many similarities to how everything happened. Firstly my brothers name is Mathew and he has many photo albums that he creates and looked through to find pictures of mum, mum drank ginger beer in hospital and she had lots of flowers given to her. I bought her a stuffed bear that she used to cuddle at night and lastly... my mum always was and will forever be, my angel. Not a day goes by where I don’t think about her and all I can do is say thank you to Ed for creating such a beautiful and meaningful song. Thank you

Apparently this song is dedicated to his grandmother on his mother's side. I wish I knew my grandparents, my mom would always talk about my grandfather who died when I was baby, told me that I was so much like him, that he loved me more than anything, that I was the apple of his eye. I wish I could see him, tell him that I'm doing alright, that I'm in college, that I'm working hard, that I just got my first job as a lifeguard, that I love him and that I'm glad that he helped raise me, even though I barely remember him.

On the 3rd of January of this year my world was rocked again after been told my Grandma was ill with acute myeloid leukaemia, she was told weeks to months to live. She passed 9 days later, we never left her side and was there when she took her last breath. I'm so grateful for everything my grandparents did for me and my family. it still doesn't feel real, like my just expecting to walk in their home and still find them.
