I have a folding knife with 550 cord loop running thru the hole in the handle that I have on my wrist at all times when I’m out alone so that it cannot be taken away from me and used against me. Also, if I’m tackled from behind, I won’t lose the knife. I’ve practiced flicking it out, and I can flick it out like it’s a switchblade. The loop should be short enough so that the knife when you use it has the butt of the handle on the bony piece of your palm that is opposite your thumb. That way when you have to stab something, the butt of the knife goes into your palm, and the knife doesn’t slide out of your hand upon impact. Your preparation is first class! Second to none!
@AloneinRemoteAlaska

Yeah I love that! Very practical and with practice can be very deadly if needed! Like a switch blade! 👍 🤭 I do like the knives that have that finger notch. Just makes it fit so much better. I don't "practice" with my knives (like you do) but I do keep them sharp. But I have been known to do some knife throwing. Very badly I might add! 🤪🤣

Blood stopper , I buy it at tractor supply it's good to stop up a bad leak. Could be a life saver. As aside you might want to try using clothes that blend in with the surrounding, black clothes in an area with basic light brown stands out and the game might think you are a bear.

I am looking into some woodland camo or digicam. I will be better prepared for next years hunt including my own 30.06. Funny as I was looking at people hunting out where we were and there really is no standard hunting gear. I saw everything from blazing orange to bright pink puffer jackets. Maybe a handful of camo. 😉🧡

Like your arsenal. My wife's cousin is a gun Toten momma too. And I too carry around the house especially during mowing season. I know you said that you practice and that's good; a lot of people don't. But something happened to me that has made me more aware of safety and that is the adrenalin rush that happens when you're in an entanglement. I survived a carjacking. And during those moments my "practicing" didn't help me much. I survived by luck when I decided to face off with the attackers. Not a very good strategy. You can be faced with an animal attack and become disabled to handle your weapon properly. You might exhaust your bullets in the revolver and not be able to reload. It's just something to think about and prepare for while your outside. I know your dog would alert you, but with electricity you can probably be tipped off to a "close" encounter faster. Anyway, I like your channel, especially Dewey and your son. Thanks! I Sub'd. Jb

So happy you are getting to know your neighbours! I hope you get some caribou. I bought a roast of moose in the store today! 😅 When my student son heard that, he said that I should put it in the freezer, so he could get roast dinner when he comes home next weekend. (With the inflation, a roast dinner is a treat these days..) Of course I did! 💕 You are a tough one! I dont own any firearms, but I do have an airgun, it looks like the real thing. In Norway we are not allowed to buy or carry weapons without a permit from the police. Hunting is a tradition in Norway, but we have strict laws to buy and carry firearms. Too much talk mama, take me for a walk! 🦮

I was just thinking about this conversation at work today, and discussed it with my coworkers at lunchtime. 😊 And the conclusion was, historically we live in a cold climate, and to survive we had to hunt and eat meat. It's so important that you get to know your neighbors because you may need each other's help one day. It's funny because our EDC are so polar opposite...lol. Only because I live in a suburb. Since COVID, I don't even carry a purse. I literally carry my debit card, driver's license in my pocket. A bottle of water in the summer. When I go feed the feral kitties at night, I do carry protection in addition. I've had some scary situations out there and it's become a necessity. Our world is vastly changing. When my dad and I go to Nevada, I carry a bag for us similar to yours but not nearly extensive. Only because I can't afford some items. We pass through the mountains and the Donner Summit, so the weather and terrain is completely different. I like to be prepared at all times but I definitely could add additional items as well, so thank you for sharing. I also abandoned my Instagram account a few years ago. It just wasn't for me. Love your dog! This may apply or may not. Ham radio. If a Ham radio club has a repeater in your area, a Technician license would be great. There are lots of problem solvers in Ham radio. If no repeaters you can still increase your range greatly with height of the antenna and a better antenna on your radios. Your FRS type radios have very limited range, with a required fixed antenna. A General License is needed for voice communications on HF (Over the horizon).

Something here may be of value. Fleece clothing is warm when wet and dries fast and is light weight. A red fleece blanket or clothing can be used for signaling. Down clothing is useless when wet but nice if dry. Wool is warm when wet. A good quality pruning saw with a folding blade is very handy. Less tiring at times than swinging an axe and can cut a snagged bush from snow machine skis easier than an axe. A very handy tool. An Estwing campers axe has a rubber covered steel handle that won't break and a pounding tool opposite the blade. An aluminum D handle short grain shovel is tougher than a plastic one and moves a lot of snow in short time. Can be used to heap a pile of snow that will harden enough in a few hours then hollow out for igloo. Cover entrance and make small hole in roof A single candle inside will give a lot of light and be around 25* even if it's -35* below outside. A pen style flare gun is small but very effective if needed. Been there, done that!

I have a so so folding saw but its small. I carry a collapsible bow saw and a curved machete. I seem to get deeper cuts with the machete. But I still keep an axe on board. I 100% agree about the D handle on just about any shovel. Better for my wrists too. I have not seen a pen sized flare gun though! Very interesting! I will have to look into that! It obviously came in handy for you! 😉🧡

Curious as to your choice of sidearm caliber and cartridge. Did you select that because you were uncomfortable with something larger? Do you feel it is sufficient for the critters you may encounter? I know you have rifles suitable for anything short of a T-Rex, but they are only useful when close at hand.
@AloneinRemoteAlaska
Жыл бұрын
My sidearm is a 357 Magnum. I normally keep hard cast 180 grain cartridge. I also have a semi auto 10MM, a 45-70 and a pump shotgun with slugs. The 357 is better for my smaller hands and I can handle the recoil better. The 357 is probably at the lower end for bears but that is why I keep a better cartridge in it. Some hunters use a 357 for bear hunting and some say it cant be anything smaller than a Desert eagle 50 cal! I always keep my 45-70 close by when I am outside so if anything the 357 could slow a bear or moose long enough to grab the cannon! :-)
