I agree. EDC is what works for the individual. It's not about what everybody else says you should carryv

I've never been on an EDC forum per se, but I do spend a good amount of time on BladeForums. That place has always been overwhelmingly positive for me. I think a big part of that is that the mods aren't just lurking in the background. They're very active, posting and chatting along with the other members. It helps keep the riff raff away since the arguments usually get shut down before they have a chance to get out of hand.

As you said, every type of forum has That One Guy. Most forums have an "ignore" function that, when used, makes the experience far better.

People like this don’t belong in our community, I find majority of us are really respectful of others budgets and still enjoy seeing everyone’s load out. Regardless of price I always like to see and understand why people carry the things they do. Thanks for the videos Gary, keep up the great work!

Agreed! I remember when I was on a pretty tight budget myself. Beyond that, one of the early lessons I learned was never to mock someone's choices. People choose based on the knowledge and the budget they have and they do the best they can with that. I appreciate constructive advice and sometimes even give it but it needs to be... constructive.

I’m a gentleman of a certain age, ahem, and I’ve witnessed the demise of civility. It started to nosedive with the rise of the internet. Great video!

These people are a part of life. I try to use these opportunities to identify what triggers me and why these commenters are always trying to pull the trigger. A sense of humour and the willingness to grow will help everyone consider different types of views. Being civil does not mean you are agreeing or conceding a point. It just means you have manners.🇨🇦🙉🙈🙊

Was it me? I'm not sure I'm a member of any EDC forums, but if it was me, I apologize. I was a member of 2 car forums, but left, because I got tired of the constant attacks. I have been accused of being argumentive, myself. In my experience on the car forums, there are the people who have been there for a long time, sho can post whatever, and no one says anything. If a newcomer posts the same thing, people jump over that person. Furyher, if the new person calls them out on this, everyone jumps on the new person. If, for example, someone posted about having purvhased jack stands from Harbor Freight, and the newcomer posted that these were a defective product and should not be used, people would jump all over the newcomer--despite those same people also having previously posted about issues with those jack stands. In this case, the jack stands failed, and a person was crushed under their car. Somehow, the people blamed the newcomer (me) for this. Ultimately, Darwin won, again. I was not there, never met the person, never knew who the person was, and never perdonally had anything to do with those jack stands. Even in person, there are issues. I was kicked out of a club, because I put aftermarket brakes on my car. Another guy was kicked out, because he mentioned thinking about doing an engine swap. Eventually, the guy kicked out the other 29 people for decals, tinting, seat covers, or whatever. Usually, it was very confrontational, with the guy yelling at people, but sometimes he would just exclude them from communications, or tell them they couldn't attend. I once tried to register for a car show, and the registration site was very buggy. I had to email the organizers. They told me I was too much trouble, and not welcome. I finally decided I dod not care. I stopped participating in those forums. I deleted my content. I stopped supporting them at all, After all, why should they benefit from my efforts, ehen they clearly refected me? Then they started bitching and moaning about my content, my support in various forms. Cry me a river. If I am attacked, I will return in kind. I am not worthless. Maybe other people are at the same point. Yes, I can be caustic. As far as EDC, mine is whatever it is. It isn't perfect, but is always evolving. There are many self-proclaimed EDC experts on KZitem. Most of them apparently unbox an item, and know less than those of us who are watching. They really seem to have little or no experience with whatever item. Some have no knowledge or experience, but babble about someone else's video. My favorite is the people who put down my choice for EDC, telling me my choices are bad, but after a year or so realize that their choices were bad, and start doing what I was doing. These same people often post videos in ignorance of many products and methods, but maybe a year or so later finally discover the better product or way of doing things. Some of them push particularly sub-par products that only add bulk and weight, while increasing complexity. There are KZitem videos by self-proclaimed experts--people who offer bushcraft courses and such--who make constant rookie mistakes. Off the top of my head, the only EDC forum I can think of is EDCForums. It comes up every now and then,, but I don't think it has been active for years. Often, the pages don't even load. I am curious who the actual EDC experts are. The best I have found seem to place themselves in the anateur category. Many of the self-proclaimed "experts" just copy from each other. Monkey-see; monkey-do--and they doo-doo. Most of them got all of "their" good ideas from other people who actually think and build good kits.

Sounds like, you simply do not like jerks 😂 I do not think this is an EDC problem as mentioned before, it's a general lack of manners in the side of the jerk, imho. As a woman working in tech, I see a lot of those people. If a man can't take a joke on himself, all respect for him just goes away.

While you do meet people like this in real life, the internet certainly makes it easy for them to behave like this and make their bees known. However the upside is it’s easier for everyone else to show their ideas as well.

I pressed like on your video even tho I didn't like it, but please read to the end, I didn't like it cause you didn't explain what was in your EDC. I completely agree with you on ppl that always says that their EDC is better or more expensive, it's not better, it may be better for them but not better for anybody else tho. An EDC is made for the person that made it and only for them and not for anybody else. Now a person can get ideas from other ppl but in the end they will make an EDC that suits themselves only

I didn't explain what was in my EDC because that wasn’t the purpose behind the video. I just put various EDC items out on the table because I think it’s better to look at those then just have a blank table top. I do explain my EDC in other videos. Please feel free to look at the back catalogue and view those.

I agree with @SigogglinJack (and I may be of a similar age). The anonymity of the Internet leads to a lack of respect and civility and courtesy and even decency. Every forum, every comments section is full of negativity or political nonsense or scams masquerading as comments ("Great content! By the way my financial advisor earned me a million in six weeks"...). Sometimes (especially on a smaller channel) it is still possible to see some intelligent banter and have a useful exchange of views. But there is a lot of chaff to sort through to get to the wheat. By the way on the topic of blade steel, I like good old-fashioned 440c or AUS-8 or D2. Why? I can sharpen it. S35VN? I don't have the skills. Magnacut? Sure it'll stay sharp a long time. But when it's not sharp any more, can I bring back the edge? Also I am, let's call it... frugal. (I know it was just an example, but I couldn't resist).

With all due respect the work sharp field sharpener will work well for any steel and it's below 35 bucks usually Replacement plates cost about 7 a plate but they last until smooth usually 300 to 500 passes on em if you use proper light pressure! Cheers mate wish ya well
