I like your idea of using plastic as a frame for your bag. Another good idea for this is to draw out some patterns for various splints ( ankle , finger arm ect. ) on the plastic itself so if you need a splint in a hurry you can cut out the pattern and use it on the fly. Also it will take up no more space or weight

Good video, thanks for sharing. Just a tip, I use my plan B as mini mobile first aid station/truck first aid kit and I use a 36" x-large SAM splint in the back section of the pack to make it rigid. It fits perfect (folded in half) in the bladder section of the pack, plus if you're in need of a split, you have one.

Cool idea. I have thought about even lining a shoulder bag or backpack to prevent anything from rubbing or tearing a hole through the bag. It also helps to keep the bag's shape thus keeping all the contents very neat.

Nice little bag kit. In your Leatherman Z Rex, The little hex hole is not the Oxygen bottle wrench. The wrench for oxygen is the rectangle in the blade next to cutting edge. Plus you can use your sign board to go grayman and put "Will work for Food. God Bless" on it. LOL. I actually did with Lexan.

Without getting too deep into my thoughts on get home bags/bug out bags, I'd like to offer one bit of advice. One thing almost everyone overlooks, not all but most, when stuffing their bags with multiple versions of just about every "survival" item known to man is anything to take care of one of your most important survival item. Your feet. These bags tend to be overloaded with just about everything under the sun, but not one pair of spare cotton socks. Since most folks aren't used to putting on non-stop miles, blisters are a given. How about some moleskin in there? If you can't walk your get home is done, and nothing kills feet faster than wet sweaty socks inside a shoe or boot. Don't get me wrong, I actually rather like your setup and your organization. Still a little overdone in "my" opinion, but way better than many. Most guys tend to carry way way too much junk to be prepared for they're not sure what, but by god they're prepared for anything from alien invasion to 2012 style armageddon.
@WelcomeToMyDream
9 жыл бұрын
+T. Greening A big plus one for foot care. Spare pair of wool or synthetic socks and moleskin (or other blister control) for sure. I carry that in anything larger than an EDC.. Gotta keep those feet happy, plus socks can be gloves, filter water, etc..
@tgreening
8 жыл бұрын
+JohnReviewer112 pick your poison as far as socks go, but having spare dry socks is way more important than having the "right" socks. I'll take dry cotton over wet wool or synthetic any day.
@WelcomeToMyDream
8 жыл бұрын
+T. Greening Cotton socks are terrible for hiking and you need feet to survive WTHSTF so having the right socks is crucial. Cotton absorbs sweat, dries slowly, provides no insulation when wet and causes more blisters than proper socks. The military uses wool or a wool blend. Hiking socks are wool or synthetic or a blend.
@tgreening
8 жыл бұрын
+T. Greening Jee-zus.. You guys are so focused on being the "SHTF Experts" you are completely missing the point I was trying to make in the first place. Are cotton socks the best? No. Is it what I would choose if I had to make an extended hump somewhere? No. Is a spare pair of clean dry cotton socks better than no socks at all in your mythical shtf situation? Yes. And that was my point. All these preppers yacking on and on about their go bags. Get home bags. 72 hour bags, yada yada yada, packed full of every dang possible thing you could need to start a fire 15 different ways and 10 different knives, hatchets and saws so you can build your "survival shelter", and not one mention of a pair of spare socks. My opinion? Being prepared is a fantastic idea, half (more?) of preppers are fools dreaming a fantasy, and surviving has a whole lot more to do with what's going on between your ears than what you're carrying in your "get home bag". Good grief.
@WelcomeToMyDream

+T. Greening I've hiked thousands of miles and run daily and like any hiker I can tell you that cotton socks should never be in your pack. Cotton isn't theoretically slightly worse than wool for a hike, cotton is a well known Very Bad Idea. Those socks will ruin your feet in hot weather too from sweat. I gave you a very positive reply and explained it nicely and you can verify this ancient wisdom in 30 seconds online or you can learn the hard way if you ever hike more than a few miles. Take care of your feet and they will take care of you.

Sleeping bag foam pad like the little cheep one's sold at Walmart cut to fit in the hydration bladder do a good job as a internal soft frame, and can be taken out for a seat on wet or cold days. Pair that up with a pad cut from reflectix (Lowes/Home depot).

@sherman614
9 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I appreciate that :) They are both great, and no, there aren't any huge differences except for the size. The ITS is more wide, which is a plus in my opinion. But, depending on what you want to put in it will determine which is better for you. As a small'ish, everyday first-aid kit, the Vanquest is great! For a trauma kit, I recommend the ITS. Both are very well made, and water resistant.

I love the sling pack. But why have your whistle and handcuff key etc buried in a baggie in the bottom of the pack? And I get having your trauma kit on the outside, but why have simple bandaids buried? Won’t a simple cut bleed all over your stuff as you’re digging through it? And why don’t most kits include eye drops? And no poncho or rain jacket? Just curious. Have a great day.

I really like the S.E.R.E pouch but it begs the question. What if your captor takes your entire kit? I'd prefer to have 4 micro kits "stashed" on my body somehow. 1 on each wrist, 1 in/on my footwear. For example, a small razor blade and handcuff key combo in each area for redundancy. That way you can get to them, no matter what position you are tied up in.

@sherman614
9 жыл бұрын
Hanse Davion Thank you! And because it's the safest way to carry for self defense. It takes extra time to rack the slide to chamber a round, time you may not have. Plus, it takes both hands to do so. If your attacker has you pinned, then you can not chamber a round. The 1911 style of pistol has about 4 safeties, maybe more. most are internal, then the 2 external.
@markusjersler8932

sherman614 Why not just rack it so You have a round in the chamber, then uncock the hammer?

@sherman614

It is very safe. You CAN rack a round into the chamber and drop the hammer.. However, it's too hard to pull the hammer back into the cocked position one handed. It's not like it is in the movies haha. In the fractions of a second you have to react and draw your weapon, that would be a fatal way to carry it, it's too slow.

+Greg wolf Not stupid at all. Basically it's the difference between scraping you knee, or getting a small cut, and having to go to the ER. A trauma is usually something that is life threatening, or at least something that band-aids and some alcohol swabs can't fix, like needing stitches.

I have a plan for outfitting it with smaller pouches like in this video.
