It's rare that you find a soprano that can sing both Wagner and Mozart. Her voice is so wonderfully enormous. She is the best!!!!

What an artist, what a voice. My word she amazes me just more and more. What a fantastic rendition of the "Liebestod." She is for me one of the best 3 sopranos ever, Callas and Sutherland the other 2. I have so much respect for Edda Moser and her exceptional talent and beautiful voice. I am absolutely in awe.💗💗💗💗

I was never a great fan of Moser - but I must say this beautiful. Her timbre reminds me often of Moffo

what a shame that she was not able to record this with a great conductor and orchestra. Someone suggests below that Furtwangler would have been good. I think her voice is superb and suited very well to Wagner if she had Karajan or Rattle conducting her here. You can tell that she is leading the conductor every step of the way and his control over the orchestra seems average at best.

It’s fairly astonishing that most of the comments here seem to be about whether Edda Moser was appropriate for this repertoire rather than about her actual singing. Comparisons between leading singers to create some sort of hierarchy of achievement are lazy and fail to address the uniqueness of these artists. What is a Wagner soprano? Is Isolde always to be lumped together with Brunnhilde, for example? What might the great man himself (who didn’t know any “Wagnerian sopranos”) have thought?

I love Edda Moser's voice however, Wager is not her strength.

She has a bigger voice than most Wagnerian singers. I believe she was at least a Spinto soprano, maybe a juvenil dramatic soprano.

Beautiful! But I agree, Wagner really wasn't her strength. She did it well, but her voice just wasn't "brassy" enough. She had a big voice and all, but in my opinion Wagner needs a more cutting or edgy voice, like Nilsson or Flagstad. Moser was just too much of a rounded sound that was perfect for the heavier Mozart roles.

OK but why not a round voice for Wagner? In my opinion Nina Stemme is very much of a round voice and does a wonderful job as Isolde. I think that it depends how you envision the character and how you picture it. As far as I am concerned a round sounded Isolde brings some interesting colors to the character.

I didn't find Flagstad "brassy." Her voice has always been compared to "marble." Also, Varnay was another great and she had a dark mezzo color.
