This a version from 1929 which has kept more of the original Scots words: chorus: Ay waukin', O Waukin' aye and weary, Sleep I can get nane For thinkin' o' my dearie. Aye waukin' O! Simmer's a pleasant time Flowers o' ev'ry colour The water rins ower the heugh, And I long for my true lover When I sleep I dream When I wauk I'm eerie, Sleep I can get nane For thinkin' o' my dearie. Lanely nicht comes on A' the lave are sleepin' I think on my true love And bleer my een wi' greetin'.

This version replaces some of the Scots words and pronunciations originally used by Burns e.g "And bleer my een wi greetin" instead of "And blur my eyes wi' weepin'" . This is not a good thing because it undermines the Scots Language and the words are not so different that an English speaker could not easily find out their meaning. Also, as a Scot, I love to hear those beautiful old Scots words which make the song more special for me. That being said this is musically probably the best version of the this song that I have heard with a wonderful performance from Eddi.
