Maybe a stupid question, but what's the point of this particular drill? Just familiarity with the positions?? Building dexterity??

Often times the top player is very familiar with leglocks entries, so getting to ashi, double outside ashi, etc can prove difficult, these off balancing movements demonstrate how to achieve these position by small “bumping” movements, in a sense, you are prodding for space and seeing where you can get access to various leg locking positions, good drill🤙

I don’t think it’s a stupid question. I do this drill almost every single training session, because it increases your course strength if you are keeping your hips up where they should be, it teaches you how to use the lake lot positions to move your opponent around to get the sweep, End it also helps to just learn what the positions feel like and where you can get from one position to another. There are more like locking positions outside of this trailer, 50-50 for instants, 8020, and the saddle, But this drills a good place to start
