A bullied child in school goes one of two ways: 1) He joins a boxing gym and learns how to defend himself, earn respect from his peers, becomes self-confident, self-assured and learns that ‘hard work + sacrifice = results! Or 2) Becomes Peter. Bxng is ‘not’ about aggression and violence; it’s about discipline, respect and work ethic. However, as in any walk of life, there are some elements who’ll become abusers but the overwhelming benefit to a community is well documented and cannot be ignored.

A point Eddie only briefly touched on which ends this argument is : 99% of kids that take on boxing do not turn professional or have a long amateur career. This means that 99% of them will never have any brain injury that is serious enough to think about. Sure, there are many occasions where professional boxers sustain serious brain injuries. But they are professional athletes that have accepted the risk as consenting adults! That is their livelihood. It's a risk they want to take to make millions or win belts. It would be completely different if the youth were the ones consistently sustaining heavy brain injuries.

Peter mentioned Mike Tyson being a boxer and getting into trouble. He doesn't realize all of the trouble Mike Tyson would've gotten into had he not been a boxer. Mike himself says he would've been dead or locked up a long time ago had it not been for boxing. Nobody is forced to box. People make a choice to box knowing the risk. Both have valid points. On one side, boxing helps the confidence in people. And in todays world sometimes you're gonna need it. A lot of crazy people think they can do as they want in random places like super markets and restaurants. On the other hand, taking multiple hits to the head for a career really messes you up as you grow old. Floyd Mayweather is probably one of the few men that pretty much came out of boxing unscathed. Fought very well defensively and made the best out of his career. Ali ended up having a terrible life after boxing due to the affects. Boxing is a sport where it teaches you to protect yourself and defeat your opponent in the ring. Peter was wrong where he said everyone looks to knock out their opponents. That's not necessarily true for everyone.

@petermallia558

Football doesn't put anyone at risk, are you kidding, anything from broken ankles to broken legs, broken cheekbones to collarbones, head Injuries, not from a padded gloved fist by another players head, concussions, sprained wrists, fingers, and more, ana the only padding used is for the shins, so any sport that has the potential for physical contact is dangerous, like Motorsports, no one is punching anyone, but people still get killed although nowhere near as many as the old days, rugby is another, hockey, horse racing is extremely dangerous especially of one falls off in the middle of a race. Boxing usually teaches one how to hold ones aggression, respect ones opponent, mostly after the bout, teaches discipline, how to take orders, to become a better man, and the money obviously helps keep people away from trouble too.

Mike Tyson would have been in even more trouble without boxing. The trouble that he did get into was a result of him being Ill equipped to deal with fame and fortune.

@@joshr920 There is a massive difference between living some deprived area that simply is not fancy and having loads of positive influences around you than living in area surrounded by negative influences like gangs, drugs, knife crime and more. Peter can't relate to these young kids. Compared to them he had a wonderful life.

Now Eddie claims that the KO is not the ultimate victory 🤣🤣. Just admit it, it’s damaging it’s dangerous and that’s part of the allure. They are modern day gladiators.

You are not educated to do that though. I recently went to a boxing match that my boss participated in and nobody was knocked out senseless

@@856Edwin It’s literally the most dangerous sport there is. In what other sport would 50 matches be considered an entire careers worth? By the way you are educated to attempt a KO if the opportunity presents itself. It is the ultimate victory it’s literally one of the most quoted stats in the sport! You must be either dumb or not a proper boxing fan.

To highlight mike Tyson going to prison, I mean how many boxers don’t go to prison? The vast majority! Peter talks about wanting to introduce measures to football and rugby to limit injuries, well amateur boxing has larger gloves, head guards, cornermen and referees. Also from a U.K. point of view the British board of control have paramedics at all events, there are actually measures in place. Obviously at a pro level the sanctioning bodies play a role in any kind of title fights so they can be matched more fairly but ultimately it’s a contact sport, like rugby or football there is a risk of injury. Where peters position is flawed is that he should be against all contact sports to make his argument valid. But no here he is wanting to ban boxing specifically yet on the other hand tried to say rugby people don’t go to do harm. Rugby is majorly physical, and people end up with brain and other injuries, he conveniently failed to say that. Footballers are competing for 90 or 120 mins, drop down of heart attacks or even get dementia from repeatedly heading footballs over a long time period. Yet peter fails to recognise this because he is trying to single out boxing No mention of MMA, no mention of formula 1, no mention of moto gp, no mention of red bull extreme sports like backflipping bmx bikes I mean the list goes on. Community wise though obviously accessibility plays a part, some kids might not have access to a go kart or quad bike, even a bmx bike etc.. but boxing you only need yourself to do some shadow boxing etc.. The councils like to put no ball game signs up constantly, limiting places people can play football but again with boxing you only need a small space and can do indoors. Young kids boys and girls when growing up don’t think like most adults and weather it’s hanging around the streets, trying to impress a girl or boyfriend, wanting to exercise and be competitive it’s much better for them to be taking up sports If all kids today sorted their issues with fists in a controlled environment like an armature boxing club rather than resorting to knives, guns, petrol bombs, machetes we would be better off. Granted I know peters position and he’s saying he has to look after Brian injured people but if you hold the view to ban boxing you must also want to ban all contact sports

I grew up on a council estate this guy is saying and it looks like he ain't been to one since he can't compare when he was on one to today that's just worlds apart he's on about boxing is dangerous and head units full of patients but how many from boxing and I bet it ain't has much as there is people going to A&E from stab wounds or killed from wounds on these streets and tbh look at the state on some of these footballers after they career can't walk tidy so if a padded glove by a arm is bad hitting you in the head what about a football being kicked at your head flat out from a leg and there is no other sport that humbles you and gives respect discipline

No one forces anyone into the sport, its a choice. Boxing has is risks, its a combat sport, but if we are going to close things down because they have potential long term health risks, we all know the NFL and concussion, F1 and other motorsport has cost lives, and then we may aswell not have an army either. But the reality it is a choice, it has risks, but it can change a persons life. Plus my personal opinion is team sports in these more troubled area have less effect as theres less accountability, easy to miss training when your 1 of 15 players. But boxing if you dont turn up, people are going to know and you will have to have an answer.
