On February 9-23,1974 Eddie Kendricks' Boogie Down hit number one on the R&B charts replacing Eddie's former group The Temptations' Let Your Hair Down and when Eddie finished his three week stay at the top it was replaced by The Spinners' Mighty Love. On the pop charts, Boogie Down hit number two for two weeks (March 9-16,1974) right behind Terry Jacks' Seasons In The Sun.

On this day in 1973 {December 29th} Eddie Kendricks performed "Boogie Down" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' One month later on Jan 5th, 1974 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} and spent 18 weeks on the Top 100 It did one better on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart; for it reached #1 {for 3 weeks} and in doing so it replaced his former group's "Let Your Hair Down" at #1 R.I.P. Mr. Kendricks {1939 - 1992} and Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}
