He used to come into my Dad’s jewelry store in Springfield and he showed me( as a youngster) how to grip a golf club.He would visit with my Dad whenever he was downtown.A great person.

I remember late in his life he'd still attend Springfield Indians games, though no longer the owner. He's sit by himself up in the stands during pre-game warmup. Little kids would be down by the ice trying to get autographs from the current players (many of which would never play a single NHL game), not realizing one of the all-time greats was up in the stands.

So it was 1965 and I was watching warm-ups with my high school friend before the Springfield Indians game with the Pittsburgh Hornets at Eastern States Coliseum. We were up in about the 20th row up. This guy with a Frank Sinatra hat is walking up toward us...as he got closer, I realize it was Eddie Shore...he was wearing glasses...kind of fooled me...then I realized with great fear we both had our feet up on the seats in front of us. "Hey! Get your feet off the seats!" With eyes looking at the floor, we took our feet off. He owned the building.

ezra1pound great. I was an Indians attendee about 1972-1981. Saw Mr. Shore there many times at Coliseum and Civic Center. He would stand by the door to the bar lounge at Civic Center like bouncer. No one ever acted up. I also liked the fact he would sit in the lower seats with the fans. a lot of respect I had for him.

Maybe the toughest ever. Played when it was a tough game. This guy was hard as nails ,,,,if he played today the media would be in hysterics because he took no prisoners. A true, tough, hockey player from Sask, Canada.

I talked to Eddie Shore Jr. one night at Springfield Hockey night. the story about eddie getting stuck at the border is true, what they did was get a team of horses from a farm up the road.

Indeed! Aurèle Joliat at 83 yers old in a 1984 Montreal Canadiens 75th anniversary celebration at the Montreal Forum. He shoed up in full uniform and took a lap arond the ice, tripping twice at the red carpet Worth seeing on youtube. Thanks for the Eddy Shore profile, BTW

When Eddie Shore coachs Milt Schmidt in him initial season (1936-37), Shore call him "MISTER" Schmidt, not "Milt", not "Conrad", or "Joe" when he didnt have the time... "Mr Schmidt, your NHL career will be ended if you cant change your style of skating!" It's the style of Shore and i laughed when Joe McGrath mention him in Slapshot... "Reggie, that remind me, I was coachin' in Omaha in 1948 and Eddie Shore sends me this guy who was a terrible..." You know the quote?
