Yeah me too, I've been dreading this day since learning his cancer had returned. I've been a fan since the very early 80s but growing up in the Caribbean I only got to see VH perform live once on their 2007 reunion tour with Diamond Dave. That year I was also fortunate enough to see Ronnie James Dio perform on the Heaven & Hell tour. It's frustrating getting older and watching your childhood heroes leave you. Rest In Peace Edward and Ronnie. EDIT: I guess I must be in shock, it slipped my mind that I also saw VH with Sammy on the F.U.C.K. tour with Alice in Chains as the opening act at the Skydome (now Rogers Centre) in Toronto in the early 90s. The reunion tour was actually the only show where I saw Dave with the band, though I also saw Dave on his Skyscraper tour with Steve Vai. Man, what a crappy year 2020 has been! Both Neil Peart and Eddie.

When I was younger I took my bedroom door of its hinges. I laid it down on some sawhorses with the inside of the door facing up. It was a white door so I took a photo of Eddie's guitar and a roll of my dad's black electrical tape. I started placing the tape on the door to match every white line on his guitar. Then I painted the door red, and when I removed the black tape it reveled the white lines underneath. Then with a little more touch-up, it looked pretty close to his guitar. I let it dry and put it back on its hinges. From the outside it just looked like a normal door, but on the inside it looked badass! My parents hated it but they never made me change it, It stayed that way until I moved out. Eddie you will be missed! This is truly a sad day R.I.P Eddie!

I was lucky enough to meet and party with him. But EVH is at the very top of the chain when it comes to guitar icons. If he’s gonna be buried with any guitar, it’s gonna be Wolfgangs decision. I’m in a state of shock. So very hard to comprehend that my all time favorite guitarist is gone. I am truly blessed that I was able and honored to see Van Halen in concert since 1984 every time they came to Massachusetts. I saw them at the Monsters of Rock tour in Maine and I was only a few feet from the stage where Eddie played. I took my wife to see Van Halen in 2004, 2007, 2012 and in August 2014. Never would I believe that would have been the last time I saw Eddie in concert. A part of my youth has just died today. Now I know how my mother felt the day Elvis Presley died. This is so extremely hard for me. Eddie is the greatest on so many levels. God bless him and my deepest condolences to the Van Halen family, friends, and all of the musicians he inspired. I picked up the guitar for awhile being inspired by EVH. I realized quickly how I lacked any musical talent by any stretch of the imagination. For those that do, I am envious. Rest In Peace dear Edward. There will never ever be another like you, only those who will follow by your example. Everyone please play all your VH albums and bootlegs to honor this guitar god. Edward Van Halen, always and forever will be #1 !!

Eddie Van Halen couldn't pick a better time to leave this place. I'm turning 57 and looking back confirming that it was Van Halen's music that really stuck with me throughout that crazy few years of high school. In any given moment it was Van Halen's music I always end up listening to although there's an extra effort involve. Most times you have to spend time listening to a radio station and wait till the DJ play a Van Halen song or call to make a request. Can't just download back then, walkman's wasn't around either. You can go buy 'em or borrow it from someone and tape it so you can play it in your car. But Van Halen also works just as hard just to give back to us. They always perform live everytime they make a new album and the tickets price was so cheap we were watching different bands every weekend for years. Thanks Eddie Van Halen! Rest In Peace.
