Thank you! This is so simple to understand from you, my teacher is one of those "I'm a doctor, I'm smarter than you and love to make you undergrads feel stupid" kind of people and had me completely lost on dislocations. But now it's easy. Great job, I'll definitely be checking out your other videos for help!!

Where do we need to use these dislocations in real life? In microscopic scale I guess, but what effect does it give to the lattice?

Why is the extra half plane contributing to compression while comparing things to the tension compression pair and neutral axis gives us the illusion that the tension compression pair will just be the opposite?

Hello am Sagar from India. I've been trying to understand this concept for a long time but i didn't get it. Am confused about what burgers vector is? Actually am not able to think it practically. So, could you help me to understand it.

When we see dislocations on a magnified image, is the image oriented in the same way this is, and the line we are seeing is the extra half plane? Thanks for the video.
@pjshamberger
4 жыл бұрын
In the orientation shown in this video the "dislocation line" tends to project perpendicular to your screen (i.e., in and out of the plane shown), and represents the edge of an extra half plane of atoms. In the green atoms ball & stick model, that extra half plane is projected downwards.

Great Video, but I have a very fundamental question. You start counting ( for burgers vector ) from the plane perpendicular to the dislocation and you get burgers vector perpendicular to the line..but what if I start counting on the left or right?
@Arsenic_99
8 жыл бұрын
He said it doesnt matter from where you start. if you're starting from the other side, the burgers vector will have opposite direction to which you started.
@shikhararvind

Rameez ul haq what if I Start vertically? .. then I will get it perpendicular to the burgers vector shown
@AmaniElFathan
2 жыл бұрын
@@shikhararvind if you start vertically, you will not get burger since there is no difference in length between the two sides. It is impossible to get burger perpendicular to what shown

This has helped a lot dear sir. It would have been much more comfortable if you have had cleared your throat. Your voice sounded like it was eating up each word as it concluded. Metaphorically, your voice gave as much discomfort (to a very willing learner ) as the noise of nails scratching on the chalk board give to an unwilling student.
