i got those since maybe late 2019 , still using them everyday on the pc /console or just watching movies , perfect for the price , mids not so great but in fact does not matter much , nice review by the way!

I had to break these in to open up the high mids up a little, and after a few weeks things rounded out. These speakers are super flat down to about 120-150. They are pretty directional as well. I added a 12 and I was able to get a great, and full sound. They dont feel that pushed and I think the wood makes the response nice and tight. I think they are flat and not tuned for loudness, so that might throw some people off, but you probably wont forget your old altecs, however, these are VERY satisfying.

I just bought these for the tv. I think they are very forward in the vocal which is great for dialogue but less ideal imho for music and yes, I agree the treble is EXTREMELY prominent and sharp. Listening to a rock track, it sounded like the Hi-hat was place front and center of the stage. I eq'ed the hell out of it just to try to tame the high end but to very modest effect. Overall, to be honest I am kind of disappointed in the sound signature of these speakers. That said, I bought them primarily for my HTPC and for movies so far they're great. I plan on adding a sub soon. I just wish they were more capable for music too.

Hi Mark. They won’t distort that’s not my concern. And they will play loud enough too. My concern is when played at loud volume, 80db and up, the top treble may seem sharp or a little bright to you. Add a bluetooth FX Audio DTA2.1BT2 or an SMSL SA300 integrated amp. Throw another 20-30 for cables, from more than decent and reasonably priced brands, like Oelhbach, Dali, Supra, Norstone, QED, Clicktronic etc and you'll be much better off for an extra 40-50 euros more.
