I think the reason you can make the filesystem structure and the bin-structure vary from each other is to facilitate a situation where the files on disk are produced by one person/team, but the editor wants a different structure for their work. If the same person is doing both, you can certainly make them the same. In my projects, the file system is typically temporal/chronological and contains dates for when things were done. My bin-organization, however, is more a reflection of the state of clips: have they been reviewed? Have they been cut into subclips? What are the selects? Have they been tagged with keywords? And so on.
@team2films
Жыл бұрын
Yes that’s true that an editor might appreciate a different bin structure. Don’t forget though that selects, processed clips, etc can always be marked and organised dynamically with metadata and smart bins. It has the advantage of media existing in multiple places simultaneously. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thanks for a concise and to-the-point video. Just to clarify: the keywords discussed in this video exist in a DaVinci project, and the metadata of the original file is not affected, right? So the "keywording" happens only after you've created a project. Is there a way to use keywords from a footage file metadata?

Yes and yes! Resolve will work with metadata that has been added on set or during production.

Hello! That’s great but I wonder if there’s anyway to assign key words to clips that were cut in timeline. For instance: I have a big clip of, let’s say, 20 minutes. There’s a bunch of themes on this clip, and in timeline I cut it in 10 different segments, can I assign different keywords to these particular segments of the same clip?
@team2films
9 ай бұрын
If you select the clip, hit F it will load it into the source viewer. From there you can turn those in and out points into a marker and assign a keyword to that marker. It's a little long winded, but it is VERY possible.

@team2films

Hello Jens, that’s a good question about creating smart bins for different cameras. Not every camera puts metadata in the file that specifically names the camera, but it’s possible sometimes based on the way that the camera names it’s files and other things like resolution and codec. Maybe we’ll make a video on it. Thanks for watching. Natalie.

The save button is only visible when you editing the metadata of multiple clips at the same time. If you are only editing a single clip there is no save button and your metadata is automatically saved to the clip in your media pool. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

What's confusing is the Media Page still "views" multiple clips (after applying Detect Scene Cuts in Edit Page) as basically clones of the source video, so essentially a 5 second clip is still a 2 hour movie to the Media Page! When I view a clip as a vid thumbnail in the Media Page, I want to see just that scene cut, not scroll thru the entire source film footage again! Can this be fixed by applying something to multiple clips at once? Thanks. New Sub!
@team2films
3 ай бұрын
Hello, that's a good question. That's because those clips are created as subclips with full extents (not limited to the in and out points). You can convert them to subclips without full extents. You might be better using one of the other methods for performing scene cuts. I.e. doing it at import. Does that help?

Hey, used this functionality yesterday for the first time and didn’t realize that it would post a comment. Let me be a bit more specific: I am not only searching for possible workflows/tricks but for best practices that actually make my life easier. In that search I often have doubts: hey, this is a lot of work. Is there a better way or is it worth it? Am I overcomplicating my life? So mentioning that for simplicity, one may not want to have bins very different from the folder structure etc make a big difference to me.

Nice video. Ive been shooting some stock and wondering about keywording. Now do theys keys work acrouss multiple projects? Should I have a master project, Can I export to XLS? Can I keep some safe backup in the cloud (happy to drag and drop a DRP .. it doesnt need to be live) In five years would I be pleased or lost to do my keywording in resolve. Often my maerial might be offline, but finding 'blue mazda' is in (offline) 32/2023_07_05/card01 would still be excellent? Would resolve remember a (low store space proxy.. even better)
@team2films
Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, that's a good question. Resolve is an NLE, not a MAM (Media Asset Management) system, therefore its toolset revolves around projects and edits, rather than the media. It cannot save metadata back to the media, however you can export a CSV of your metadata for import back into Resolve or other programs. This might satisfy your XLS question? There are some features that might help you. For example Power Smart Bins. It's also possible for Resolve to read metadata set in the camera and to parse metadata from file names. Another insight, any color tags that are set and defined in the Finder on a macOS can automatically be imported as keywords. Just turn the setting on in User Preferences. If you're looking for a comprehensive system for management stock assets, there are dedicated programs that will do a better job. I hope that's helpful. Please ask if you have further questions.
