Reminds me of visiting the Australian Parliament in Canberra along with visitors from Kerala wearing their traditional clothes. We had to pass through a glass door and saw on the other side there were immaculately dressed Ladies and Gentlemen who probably would have been Ministers, Parliamentarians and officials approaching the same door. On seeing them I stood back along with my guests although we were the first to reach the door. The whole lot on the other side stood there and asked us to pass through only because we were the first to reach. My guests were perplexed and could not believe their eyes imagining of a similar situation in India. I do not have to describe much this incident tells everything.

Thank you Editor ji. Any sensible patriot cannot rebut any point you made here. You said, "...Till such time that you and I do not understand our rights, our powers, and the fact that we are the taxpayers. These people of the three pillars of Democracy are supposed to be serving us, protecting us, not ruling us, such things are going to increase in our country." I can ascribe the sole reason for these sad and deplorable state to the self imposed insensitivity syndrome and the deafening graveyard silence of the middle class voters. By God's grace our today is good, which, in fact, should have been umpteen times better if not best. If this entire section realise the significance of their fundamental right to vote judiciously every thing would fall in line.

Yea right. Me and a lot of people voted for others not the bjp. The bastards purchased mlas and made their government. Pardon my language but what the fk is the use of a vote when the candidate we vote for (and I've voted for different ones) will simply be purchased where is the sanctity for our votes. My rights mean Jack when such people rule with an iron fist.

I feel you are right my friend. Middle class intelligentsia have developed a sense of arrogance and apathy in the past 10-15 yrs. We are very quick to talk about "development", economics, history, politics, etc. as half-educated pseudo-experts, but there is very little critical analysis in public debate, and very little love for fellow common man. Mainly it has become narrative driven, enabled further by the media and IT cells. All the "education" has not enabled us to develop a sense of critical thinking, or a sense of true patriotism and empathy.

@@Anon999-qk3uethank you for being rational. Cast, creed, colour, customs, beliefs don't fill any one's tummy. They certainly make our soles happy. Whereas, education and employment provide us our physical life, like food, clothing, shelter, health care, and the luxurious things. When I am starving, I cannot feed myself with theosophy. May wisdom dawn on every one.

You have raised a vital issue that no one even thinks about today. It motivates me to tell you something that has been bothering me for years. The OC of any police station summons any citizen at the drop of a hat. It is the usual practice everywhere. It bothers me because it is an insult to our democratic rights. Why should a police officer call someone at the police station? If he wants to question someone, I usually expect the officer to call on the person concerned at his residence, preferably with a prior appointment. Isn't it? What is your take on it? Please think it over. I feel it is time our people need to be sensitised on this.

Most of them were good listeners and had real good clarity and spoke well on issues presented before them...but when some of them spoke i wished i never heard what they said as it used to be so senseless and has made me how is this guy still here... Even judges should go through mental evaluation just to be sure they give sane judgements.

What Mr Nair discussed here is rooted in our culture and ethos. These leaders came from withing our community and their ideas are moulded by their families and society around them. Most of these leaders are self-centred and motivated by their own agenda. Unless they rise above their personal interest and support broader community, the faith of an average Indians is doomed.

In the same way the the Court which has the power should pull up the Enforcment Agencies for misusing their powers. Raiding an opposition MP, MLA, person etc for some illegal offence and letting him loose if he changes his party or his thoughts. If not then he is sent to prison without bail. Punish everyone who is an offender whether he is willing to change parties, his thinking or not.
