Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma showcased his football skills during the Captain Williamson A Sangma Memorial Trophy at the Baghmara Govt. HS School Playground. Wearing a gray jersey for Rongara/Siju XI (R/S XI), he scored two goals in a commanding 6-2 victory over Wegra FC, led by Apriline Marak, Chairman of the Baghmara Municipal Board. The tournament features 32 teams and will conclude with a final on September 25, attended by Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar.
This event aligns with the state's Mission Football 2 initiative, aimed at fostering football talent and improving sports infrastructure. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Meghalaya into a football hub at the grassroots level, with ministers like Rakkam Sangma actively participating to inspire youth engagement in sports.
Rakkam Sangma highlighted the growing success of young athletes in various competitions, including the Subroto Cup and Khelo India, noting the significant advancements in sports infrastructure under the current government.
