Close to one thousand schools in the Eastern Cape have been earmarked for permanent closure due to dwindling learner numbers.
This is part of the rationalisation program which aims to restructure the schooling system and implement effective resource allocation at public schools.
Education MEC, Fundile Gade, says the consultation process with the affected schools and communities has commenced.
