I am not a professional in or around education but I think I have become a good observant over the years that I went to school and I have this gut feeling that something is wrong with our culture and social norms that made us end up as what we see as society of Ethiopians of this day,so we are in the midst of a puzzle that needs multidementional approach and it needs time and the right mind to evolve to be where we have to be. In all fairness our backwardness is greatly attributed to our communal way of living ,so I think we need rational politicians with political authority to transform us in this evolutionary process.

Brother Gizaw, Valentine's Day has nothing to do with Ethiopian culture and religion. I don't know your religion but this holiday represents the evil. The founder of this holiday are Pagans ( followers of the Goddess). You can do your own research. As an Ethiopian and Christian, I would advice you to do your own research before you adopt others culture & Value. Specially Western Value!

What you have shown us today is the biggest difference between educated and cadre officials’ analysis of Ethiopian problems. The majority of prosperity party officials are useless and they don’t even know their own personal problems. They take notes when Abiye lectures them. Most of them have gone through TPLF education system. The regime appoints officials based on their loyalty to the leaders instead of their qualifications. Great job to you and keep up the good work!

He is a dam Frog Man. Forget to be a Minister of Education, he can not fit, to be a normal Ethiopian Citizen. He was appointed by, a political and ethnically motivated, ANTI-AMHARA, ANTI-ORTHODOX, AND GENOCIDAL EXTREMIST OROMO LEADER, ABIY AHMED ALI. BOTH OF THEM HAVE MOTIVES, AGAINST AMHARA PEOPLE.
I , like most Ethiopians completely support what the current department of education is doing to prevent plagiarism! I am a living witness like almost everyone who went to school back in Ethiopia. If anyone says they haven’t experienced themselves or don’t know anyone who hasn’t cheated on the national exams , it would be an absolute lie 100 % . I went to nazareth girls school and cathedral catholic school , both are privates in Addis Ababa ( prominent at the time ). When we took the standardized national exam , the examiners would leave the classroom, allowing the academically weak students to copy from us . I was threatened by 3 of my classmates that if I try to cover my sheets , they will make me regret it . One of them actually said “ I will send someone to stab you “. I can never forget that statement! Well I had no choice, they all passed and one of them actually got into medical school . And yet she was one of the lowest ranked in our class . I feel so bad for the poor Ethiopian people who had no choice but to use the poor service provided by these incompetent graduates! So many incompetent doctors making so many medical errors. We all know lots of people who lost their lives from that ! I also feel so bad for those who had to study very hard and are very smart who deserved to be in that spot and and yet the limited spot are being taken by students who only have the money to go to a ‘good’ school allowing them to cheat. The education system is so broken and needs to be fixed ! And that starts from building generation based on truth , honesty and hard work ! Not short cuts because short cuts and cheating did not make our country any better but made it worse !

One day I met an Ethiopian girl who graduated with a Bachelor Degree in computer science from JJ University and she was working for DHL at JJ brunch. I asked her what did she study and she replied, I am afraid to tell you what I studied because I studied computer science and I touched the computer only the last year. So in a simple answer its better to say I graduated from JJ University. Quality is better than quantity?

I wish Hermela had a lot of reading about Ethiopian Education System, pros and cons, from where we started, where we are now, the British and French influence in the education system, the socialist, the ethnic governments and their impacts in the current problem....The capability measures, where we stand now in depth in numbers, in categories, and also where we want to go and how and when we will reach....I felt their is a gap depth in preparation and also the broadness of the topic...but it is ok at least...

Knowledgeable Truthful and Principled man I Know in the Current Ethiopian regime - Hat’s off Professor BREA ☑️ℹ️✅
Wonderful I am imagining how beneficial it would be to have quality discussion like this with other passionate decision makers, to find out how they see things. Particulary decision makers whose portfolio and area of activity directly relate to quality of life: housing, health, local area planning etc... Education is a very good starting point. Countries develop because decision makers are able to leverage skill networks. People have different interests, abilities etc...it is collaboration and complementarity that get things done. Skill networks are what do wonders: training programming to develop local skills and connecting to other skill networks in other countries, through skilled migrant programmes, partnerships between training institutions etc..

Birhanu is one the very few individuals in the government who make a difference-education is key to change the society that the tplf has destroyed in the last few decades. If he’s the chance to read this comment, I’d suggest the professor read ህልውና a book by Professor Solomon Yirga, there’s a very impressing text about education and more, Hermella, please suggest to the professor to read the book. The professor caught me by surprise when he gave credit to the one he replaced for starting some of the good things before he came in. Everybody knew education was at a very sorry state but the exam results were still shocking. Massive retraining of teachers is critical. Dr Berhanu is considered the best organizer in the country even by his critics. Those who feel educating is their calling are going to have a much better time. Hermela is the princess of ethical journalism. You rarely see two Ethiopians a generation apart have so much in common. Excellent.
